The did. Only we were supposed to get the tolls because we built it without their help. Now we’re splitting the tolls.

    2. Hate to agree with Trump, but he’s right. What a joke of a deal and a slap in the face to the original deal made when we PAID FOR THE WHOLE THING.

The only way I would agree with this deal is if we renamed the bridge to the „Trump-Epstein Bridge of Friendship“ as a fuck you.

But honestly we should have just kept it closed, bit the bullet, (and maybe renamed it anyways).

They basically reneged on a deal that they had already made. Waited for us to build the bridge, at 100% cost to us, then held the bridge hostage because they could control the deployment of customs and immigration officers to the entry point.

Im so bad that we got screwed by America We built the god damn bridge. This shows that we can never trust Americans again with any long term programs or projects

    5. It is a not a toll split that was added, but rather a profit share for 15 years. There is no accounting profit as a result of depreciation and imputed interest expense, so this is just a token give from Canada’s seat.

I suppose the fact that people are confused is a pro, as it gives the U.S. the cover to call this a win even though in practice it’s largely status quo.

I’m starting to get concerned how Canadian nationalism is coming. Who tf cares what rich person got the better deal.

Staffing at the Canadian side however will be limited to one lane, used entirely for training border services rookies

    8. I said this elsewhere but based on reporting from the NYtimes the US only gets 50% of the profits from tolls after operating expenses have been deducted. We also have zero insight into what this “regional fund” actually is so let’s wait and see the details.

This is what 3rd world dictators do when negotiating deals. Trump is pretty much just a mafia criminial bribing and blackmailing to get a ‚deal‘.

Once Trump is out of the picture we should pursue means of going back to the original deal.

If Trump doesnt respect negotiations and legal deals then why should we in this case ?

Canada should sue the US government for breach of contract. They had a deal back in 2018.. Where’s Trump’s deal to get a cut from the profits with the Moroun family, the oligarch who solely owns an international bridge? As a Canadian, I hate America now and don’t want anything to do with them.

This is why we can’t rely on America. They will make a deal, then come in and demand more. Trump has just exposed how untrustworthy they are.

We need to keep moving away from them as quickly as possible. The insanity down there is only going to get worse.

    12. He did get a massively better deal, to the tune of about 6.5 billion dollars.

Food thing we’ve got a master negotiator at the helm who is able to so skillfully fold our cards every hand.

In the end, the tolls were going to split after the bridge was paid off I believe. That said, it’s incredibly disappointing to have to make this deal.

The thing is, if Carney doesn’t do something then there’s no bridge, no tolls, and no revenue. If he does (like now) we get the bridge, tolls, and revenue.

Am I a fan of the deal? No. However, there was no other option given we already paid for the bridge and built the bridge. That said, this is one of those issues that will be brought up in the future when Canada inevitably screws the United States. All this dance proves is that the United Stars is not an ally and should not be treated as a reliable and fair partner.

Cautionary tale about the consequences of taking almost twenty years to build a bridge. Market and political conditions change.
