    1. „The victim stated that he consented to being shown a joke but did not consent to Bernhardt “humping” him from behind or anything else involving his “lower half.”“

What a dumbass. Hope this reaches him a lesson. So glad the coworker and supervisor supported the employee and helped them take action.

      Very weird and abnormal behaviour.

This would freak out anyone who was victimized in this way.

Yup, that is sexual assault, not a joke!

    4. Hotdog_Broth on

I love how the defence is basically “he consented to seeing a joke which means he consented to being sexually assaulted”

    5. >Bernhardt then told the victim to do the same with his other hand and arm, so that both arms were in the air behind his back in a “Full Nelson.” After both of the victim’s hands were behind his head, Bernhardt moved behind him, grabbed him by the waist and thrust his hips into the victim’s buttocks twice.

“(The victim) also testified that Mr. Bernhardt said, ‘This is my way of showing dominance,’ after showing the joke to him.

What the actual fuck. The way people use „joke“ to deflect and minimize their derangements is sickening.

This is an old ass joke, and I’ve seen it performed probably like 8 times in my life. That said, never on someone the joke teller didn’t personally know.

    7. The other way this joke goes is you then get flicked in the nuts when your hands are too far away to react.

These were 80’s and 90’s things , and probably older, that weren’t great then but was some boredom based things done between friends or school yard frenemies.

That someone decided to do this with such an age and power imbalance is pretty bad. Charging him with a crime seems correct.

Edit: it’s not clear from the article if there is an age difference, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there was.

What a fucking weirdo. Imagine how many people he has done this to who didnt report it.

    9. LowObjective on

Sounds like he’s been doing it to male service workers all over the place. Likely because they’re working and are basically forced to engage with him and his “jokes.” Glad it was reported.

    10. That was joke it was assault. Putting someone in a hlf or full nelson is not a joke.

    11. Ecstatic_Doughnut216 on

If you have to explain your joke to a judge, it was never a joke.

what a douchebag… that kind of ‚joke‘ might work with friends, but not strangers.

They also knew it was in poor taste because they wouldn’t do the same joke to the female staffer.

    13. The irony of the situation is with him going to jail…this is a big ol’ karmic bitchslap waiting to happen.

      Or cheekclap.

I guarantee this man and his inner circle have the maturity of 12 a year old and wouldn’t have a clue what all the fuss is about, there will be a total lack of empathy or awareness about how this is perceived by the victims.

    15. This is a stupid headline. Just dumb. A joke is what did the blonde say to the rabbi or something. This guy was ready to dry hump ffs.

This happens alot where I work. They dont get that they are sexually harassing their male Co-workers. I point out that makes them gh3y and they get defensive. It’s like working with 12 year olds, I swear to god, no boundaries are respected.

    17. No-Arrival633 on

Weirdo. No sense of boundaries. At least he had the sense not to try it with women. I doubt he’ll get huge time but he needs some sort of therapy to teach him not to touch people without permission.

    18. Thirdnipple79 on

Even before the assault, he’s abusing an employee who is trying to do his job.  People like this should be forced to work a minimum wage job for years as punishment.

    19. Rude_Judgment_5582 on

That was no joke. It was sexual assault plain and simple. Trying to cover it by calling it a joke is an insult. And then we wonder why no one wants to work entry level jobs.

    20. CanadianViking47 on

this was a fairly common „joke“ when i was younger about 20 years ago, back then we kinda just punched the guy in the nose and they never did it again but thats obviously a barbaric rural saskatchewan way to deal with the situation

    21. This guy is a dumbass but he’s not a danger to society and prison wouldn’t be in the public interest. Make him do community service and fine him.

    22. It wasn’t a joke. It was a sexual act. This headline is being dishonest

This is the first article I’ve read that goes this in-depth on anything in the past however long
