Yeah it’s mid and the non spicy curry is bad but it’s an easy go to. Kind of expensive lately though
Nowadays I go there for convenience, but yeah it’s expensive and flavor wise it’s just ok. I miss living next to 上等カレー 😂
I kinda like it.
Now that isn’t a bad strategy. Perfectly mid so that it fits where most people would enjoy
I actually really like their flavor. But most CoCos I see are borderline empty and the one closest to me even closed down, so I’m kind of shocked to hear it’s so popular.
I think it’s delicious
The best thing is that the „not spicy“ curry actually isn’t spicy. Most other restaurants the „not spicy“ version is just mild but still spicy. Coco ichiban is the only curry restaurant I went to more than once.
The McDonald’s of curry. Nothing special, but it does have its charm. That said, I never go and prefer making my curry. If I’m going out for curry, it’s Thai or Nepalese/Indian.
If people wanted flavor they would be eating any other Asian country’s curry before Japan’s.
I think it’s kinda mid and I think the selections of toppings are kinda bland and not enough for the price. Also, the curry is always heated piping hot and I have to wait like 10 minutes for it to cool down before I can even start eating.
comparing coco curry with local curry shops is a non sense, for the same price local shops offer cheaper and most tasty curry, coco its the absolutely last option when everything else is closed or there is nothing else, last time i had coco was at Haneda and because I just craving curry before departure…
It’s kinda lost the charm for me as the prices went up and more & more of the 24 hour locations shut down….. but what I like about it is that I’ve dialed in exactly what I want and I can get it where-ever I am in the country.
(Foreigner) This is the best news I’ve heard this year. I only stayed in Japan for a few weeks and so I only had the time and knowledge to grab curry from CoCo. I thought it was unbelievably delicious, and I learned how to make a copycat at home because I missed it. Hearing that it’s consider mediocre has me planning a return trip.
Where else would I be able to eat mackerel curry?
Availability and marketing can do wonders. Just look at all those fast food restaurants with their gourmet dishes.
I don’t particularly like curry but CoCo1 does it for me.
Just expensive and so mid. I genuinely don’t understand why it is a chain.
If you want good Japanese-style curry, go to a local shop or try out Kanazawa-style curry like Gogocurry or Champion Curry (my favorite). Everything is around 1000 yen.
What an indictment of neoliberalism that a civilization which prides itself on each indivual perfecting their craft would boast about perfecting their mediocrity.
Coco Ichiban is the S.M.A.P. of restaurants. Adequate and unchallenging, the comfort of mediocrity.
Really for japanese curry just make it at home.
I know I’m going to catch a lot of flack but i dont mind coco curry. Had both version(us and japan) and is good. Also try a super expensive curry shop here in NYC and the only thing saving it was the free refills of rice . Plus i learned how to make it a home but still fast food is just that: food!
The Moët of champagne approach
Bruh. Have you had their specialty meat dishes? Wow. The best meat dish I’ve had anywhere in Japan. Amazingly tender and flavorful. If you’re interested, I’ll put images on imgur
LUKEWARM SENTIMENT!?!?!!?
Get the fuck out of here if someone claims to not like Coco Curry they’re too far up their own ass being a foodie hispter.
I don’t appreciate the media dragging Coco Ichibanya’s good name through their shitpost.
