He’s right. It’s a fictional story.
He doesn’t care about it, the same way he doesn’t care about accuracy on clothes, costumes, cast. Movie looks boring af but of course the mob will eat it up for its weird cast. This will be forgotten in a few months
It’s amazing that people care so much about casting in a movie with fucking cyclops‘.
It’s not a historical movie, it’s a fucking epic.
Not very woke of him. The Odyssey is a cornerstone of Greek cultural heritage. Try re-making The Color Purple with white actors and see what happens.
Feels like he learned something from criticism that Dunkirk was whitewashed and is trying harder with representation from Tenet onward
My old ass remembers how angry the internet got when he cast Heath Ledger as the Joker instead of Robin Williams.
EDIT: Nolan had never mentioned Williams, he’s someone fans were rallying for. They even did fan art at the time.
feel like the hate is artificial cause websites just want clicks and generate endless hateful articles. “haters” are still gonna see this movie
I don’t care for them using “Dad” and “Daddy”. But I know it’s a Nolan thing, I just don’t understand why he needs every A list actor in the world in his movies. Like can we get some other people in?
He says that because who’s going to stop him from doing what he wants? Who asked for an Odyssey movie? Was there a demand for it? No. They make what they want.
Dealing with batman? Did he get a lot of backlash or drama over it when the movies came out???
Imagine if the people who gave a shit about the casting put that energy into something that actually would make a positive impact on the world

My only cristicism of the Odyssey is that I wish Nolan made another movie instead( another sci-fi original please), dont really care for this story.
But its still a Nolan movie, still worth the watch
yea he’s right. Ledger backlash is still fresh in my mind. Even as a fan (of both) it was a head scratcher but the fanboys were pissed.
and well Nolan was right and knew what he was doing. people acting as if this will be the worst movie is funny bc early reactions are all positive so far and it will do numbers.
Nolan reportedly doesn’t have a smart phone. He probably sees 0 of said backlash.
Nerds are the easy to deal with once you just dismiss them.
I’m not angry about the casting. It could be a 100% Idris Elba Featuring Divine as Helen of Troy and I wouldn’t care.
But the costumes and boats grind my gears. Tarnished-bronze-armored Batamemnon sailing back to Clytemnestra in a Norse longboat? Absolutely not!
I will not be answering questions about my love for Coriolanus.
Why are people kicking off about the casting? What’s the issue this time?
The casting is fine, but the trailers haven’t provoked the slightest interest in me to see it.
Helena of Detroit ain’t it broham…Ummm and Achilles? 5’1″ and 105lbs soak and wet? Plus food, you have“Travis Scott “ trying to act. Could have casting step it up.
I do think it was a mistake casting a mentally ill person as Achilles. And Lupita Umbongo as Helen of Troy. The face that launched a thousand ships (in the other direction). His choice though I guess. No one is forcing us to watch it, thank god.
The ourage merry go round tried its best to spin up on Nolan again. Nolan’s trophy cabinet’s reaction „lol, lmao even“.
I do wonder how many outrage peddling YouTubers do it just for the hope of views and how many are now in active collaboration with advertising agencies.
Haters gonna hate and they’ll find reasons for it even if it was almost perfect in their eyes.
He is preparing for the excuses about how it was meant for the modern audience if it flops. I saw one trailer and it looked great…..then i saw another and now I think i will pass, the best was shown it in the first trailer me thinks.
It’s Greek Star Wars, I don’t know why anyone cares.
Forcing artists to change what they believe in is so typically anti free thought and expression.
Bunch of losers
Love the Batman analogy; it’s also a beloved mythological character that Nolan took in a new cinematic direction. I’m going into Odyssey with the same mindset when BB came out: let’s see the direction he goes in!
