      > Ms Widdecombe, a Catholic convert, was best known for her robust views on moral issues such as abortion, same-sex marriage

Hahah they know how cruel it makes her look to actually say what the views were so it’s just “yeah, yknow, views. Views generally.”

    2. Bet Farage feels a right tit for saying he was the most attacked public figure/politician in the modern era now doesn’t he

The BBC are reporting that this is now a murder investigation

Well this has taken a turn i didnt expect.

I thought it was just ‚old age‘ but seems something alot more serious, especially announcements of blood in house which at first could indicate a fall and an investigation but to now think it was murder quite serious.

    5. When I got up just before 6 this morning they were reporting her death on Sky News as ‚Breaking News‘ so it was on big yellow banners all over the screen. Then all of a sudden they pulled the story and didn’t mention it for another hour when it came back again as ‚Breaking News‘.

As far as I know they never said why they pulled the story for an hour.

The police said „We are deploying all of the necessary resources to find out exactly what has happened and to locate the person responsible who we believe to be a white male“

    7. „Police say murder inquiry in early stages while they look for white male suspect.“

And look how they worded this: „Our murder enquiry is in its early stages but moving at a significant pace. We are deploying all of the necessary resources to find out exactly what has happened and to **locate the person responsible** who we believe to be a white male.“

So the police currently think it was murder.

    8. Didn’t like the woman, and wasn’t terribly upset when I heard she was dead, thinking it was probably natural causes at her age, but I wouldn’t wish a violent death on an old lady like that regardless of her political views.

Wholly disagreed with her politics and views, but the death of anyone under such circumstances is heartbreaking for all involved and wouldn’t wish it on even such. The timing for sure is interesting also, not that I’m reading into it.

    10. Gonna need more protection for mps now especially as this is now the third time a mp has been murderd

I disliked her personally but this is just as bad as the murder of Jo Cox. Violence is not acceptable as political discourse.

Edit: As others have mentioned, I should add I don’t know why she was killed. But if it does turn out to be politically motivated then this is unacceptable.

    12. I had real-world offline arguments with friends because I said that Charlie Kirk getting shot in the neck might not be something to celebrate.

I strongly disagreed with him on almost everything politically, just like I strongly disagreed with everything Ann Widdecombe said.

But once we start killing each other over political disagreements we’re f***ed.

I hope it was totally unrelated to politics and either a freak accident or a burglary gone wrong or something…

Saying they’re looking for a suspect is strong wording for police. That’s not just a „wonder if this head wound was a fall or something else“. They probably already know what happened.

    14. Educational-Tone-146 on

It’s likely she’s been killed by some scumbag who broke into an old lady’s home looking to commit theft. Until there’s evidence that this was a politically motivated crime let’s not come out of the gates with that kind of speculation.

    15. Police are making a list of people who might have had anything against her, they are appealing for more paper.

    16. ChrisWidnes on

If they have a suspect this quickly, either caught on camera or someone known to her?

Either way, it’s quite a shock and I hope justice is done. Was not a fan of her politically but she didn’t deserve that. RIP Anne.

People are just disgusting now, aren’t they? Both sides. Just repulsive behaviour. Cruel. And it’s real people expressing their genuine feelings. It’s not bots. It’s not trolls. Real people being their real disgusting self. Saw it when George Floyd was murdered. Saw it when Charlie Kirk was murdered. Seeing it now.

RIP Ann Widdecombe. Didn’t agree with your social views. Appreciated your ability to have a laugh and engage in hostile territory.

    18. Vegetable_Moment_982 on

Put politics aside and your personal views on her, an elderly persons been murdered in her home, truly disgusting and abhorrent, she didn’t deserve that.

Once again we find redditors celebrating the death of someone who’s opinions differed from theirs. Yet they call them horrible? Take the log out of your own eyes. I’m not a fan of Ann, always thought she was a bit mental, but despite me not liking a lot of her views I certainly wouldn’t want her dead.

    20. Ronald_Villiers_67 on

Jesus I heard earlier today she died snd figured it was just old person vs heatwave scenario. Surely we cant be having political assassination in this country. We are supposed to be better than this pathetic cowardly act. It was pathetic a few years ago when the labour politician was killed even though I am definitely not in the labour camp and now if it comes out to have happened again then we truly live in dark times.

    21. That’s a shitty thing to happen to anyone.

Wasn’t a fan, like most of us, but that’s a really tragic ending. Poor woman.

    22. goalieflick on

Appalling news. We have many public figures who for whatever reason we dislike. I was no fan of some of her policies, however…….

Ann Widdecombe had many controversial political views but was an excellent constituency MP. There are many anecdotes reflecting this on social media. She genuinely cared about the people she served when it came to her constituents.

To have her lose her life in this manner is nothing to mock. She has been brutally murdered and no-one deserves that.

For the sake of decency, please think before jumping on the bandwagon and posting crass comments.

    23. Jesus, I thought the comments were bad enough this morning, now Hittler is in the conversation. A vulnerable woman due to her age has been violently murdered and we teetering on the edge of ‚Well she asked for it, with her views‘ Christ is this what we have become.
      Its sickening!

    24. Leftofnever on

I am shocked. When I heard she’d died I just assumed it was natural causes. I didn’t like her or her views but she didn’t deserve being brutally murdered. Whatever you think of her, someone loved her and is grieving right now.

The True Crime addict side of me does wonder what on earth happened and why.

    25. Am I seriously supposed to mourn the death of a woman who consistently denied my right to exist?
