Now if only ram and a hard drive didn’t cost $1,000 by itself.
There very well may be something here, but answering a poll question is much different than changing buying behaviors.
Ah yes PC where physical media is the primary format
Who knew treating your most enthusiastic, core fanbase like a captive ATM would eventually backfire, right?!
I’ll believe it when I see it.
I’ve been on PlayStation for over 20 years now. With what they are doing I’d easily choose a crappy PC over this future
I’m probably going to be one of them. I’ve got a quite big steam library from my last stint of PC gaming and if I’m going to have to go full digital it might as well be with steam.
We’ll bring back(back where who knows) the money we made by bringing our games to PC by making them exclusive. Ohh wait we are pushing people away. Quick double down and announce we are getting rid of disc. Clowncar crash of a company. Disc are clearly dying, must let it happen, do they not remember at the start of this console generation Xbox shooting themselves in the foot
Biggest reason those polled are considering leaving Playstation is kind of buried in the article but you probably guessed it right:
***“Of those responding to the survey, 41% cited Sony’s decision to stop manufacturing physical games as the reason they would leave.”***
Can confirm, went to ps4pro from pc. Then bought a ps5 in 2020. Last year, i went back to PC because of Sony worsening anti consumer behaviour.
The fail of Microsoft to Provide a real competitor with Xbox made sony going scumbag sony again, just like they have been before the ps3 disaster.
Protest until GTA comes out then watch everyone go back instead of waiting for a PC release.
The PlayStation players have too many limitations in comparison with PCs.
Sony ecosystem is too controled:
* Region locked accounts, games and even locked savefiles
* Payed online multiplier with payed cloud saves
* Inability to back up for saveflies and transfer them on a another console without psn cloud
* Atrocious refund policies
* No game sharing of digital copies(virtual cards, family sharing e.t.c)
* Single storefront in a locked ecosystem
* No ownership. They even removed purchased content from digital libraries when the content was removed from PS store. At least other storefronts reserve the same rights but they do not enforce them as bluntly.
* Limited Backwards Compatability in order to sell again the same product. The are not on single licence for a game there multiple ones. (PS4,PS5, soon PS6) with payed seperate upgrade licence. When sony decides to close the PS4 store in 10 years the PS5 upgrades will stop working and a new PS5 licence will be required.
* No digitisation offer of physical libraries in order to easy the transition.
I was all set to buy a PS5 this year in order to play GTA early, and I’m also really looking forward to Wolverine and God of War Laufey, but with the crazy price increases to the hardware and them not wanting to sell physical discs anymore I’m just gonna cancel those plans. It makes sense now why they don’t wanna sell games on PC anymore, I got all my Sony Studios games for at least 33% off on Steam and I’m sure that once the PS store is the only way to buy their games the prices will go up and the discounts will never be more than 10%. It’s not worth it to me to spend 800 euros just to play 1 game a year early and 2 other games that look great but I can live without
I think the issue is they stuck with Sony because they offered something that the PC doesn’t. Physical games. Now that they are removing them some will move.
Also let’s say you bought games on Steam and the PS3. PS3 store is about to shut down and you won’t be able to get those games anymore. Steam you just get the game. Nintendo does the same thing. These are reasons I have left consoles. Is they have screwed me out of digital access to games I bought.
If gaming get’s too expensive, we will just play our backlog or buy used games.
The reason to have a console (for me) was that i could buy used games, consoles were cheaper than a good graphics card and it was less hassle with installing games on pc.
But now a new console gets quite expensive, installing takes a while and updates are big to download, and they are trying to kill disks.
Maybe i just get a different hobby if the costs keep rising.
I pretty much already left Playstation behind. No worthwhile exclusive titles coming out, I got a new Pc last year and been having a blast going through my backed up steam list. Playstation enshitified itself too much for this one. Last title I played was elden ring and didn’t touch my console since finishing it. Was having fun playing online but prices went up so i just ditched it.
PC master race baby.
I own a PS5 and PC and Sony just made the decision for me to exclusively stick with PC. There is no reason for me to get the next console at all.
I had already done so when instead of reducing the price of the PS5, they increased it. And that was before the RAM crisis. Was going to buy it when the price dropped originally but that’s never happening.
This move just solidifies that I’ll be sticking solely with PC gaming in the future.
I bought a new GPU instead of the PS5 a couple of years ago. That’s coming from someone who owns and loves PS1/2/3/4/P/Vita. I still love Sony of that era and always will, so many fond gaming memories. The current Sony is dead to me.
Ya, I am pretty hardcore but buy my bigger games digital. Sony made the decision for me for next gen.. I’m gonna ride my PS5 Pro out till it’s over and then look at the market and decide if building a PC is right I have a steam deck right now so I got a taste of the solid ecosystem of PC gaming and the open nature of Steam. If not well my backlog and old consoles it is. Sony really crunched the wrong numbers especially in a generation where they under delivered due to an ill advised attempt at Live service and closing beloved studios like Japan Studio and Bluepoint. Kind of sick of the 200mil dollar sad dad game as well.
„Let’s leave one platform with no physical games, and go to another!!“
Left PS plus after last price hike. I haven’t bought any new games. I probably won’t buy PS6 because I’ve a beefy PC.
All pros of PS have been outweighed by cons that Sony themselves have caused lol.
Ultimately, actions speak louder than words.
If jumping to PC, I think people should jump to GOG and not Steam but seeing the inquiries, I bet the vast majority are going to Steam and just trade one digital prison for another.
May want to mention that percentage is from a very small survey of people who are online and follow what’s going on
It’s not representative of the vast majority of PS owners
45% say they will buy a PC
then they check PC prices
90% of them change their minds
end of story
joke aside no matter how bad the PS story is, the prices for a new gaming PC will scare people even more
So maybe 10 to 15% of those 45 will actually leave console gaming.
If you think these numbers outperform the gains of getting rid of physical supports, selling virtual game licenses and banning second hand game sales, you probably don’t have Sony’s marketing team running the numbers.
