    1. In agriculture and petrochemical industries you have a LOT of examples of things that German bans or heavily restricts and regulated, just to buy them from abroad.

It’s a choice, if as a country people are fine in losing those jobs and be poorer, I respect.

But would actively be against this on my home country

What this kinda doesn’t tell you:

Germany still produces most of its consumed eggs itself. 72% of all eggs consumed in Germany are from Germany.

Same vibe as banning nuclear power generator, then lets import electricity and have the highest price in europe. Regulatory moral outsourcing.

Germany also banned nuclear powerplant and other fossil fuel powerplant to shift to the renewable energy sources. But they are importing electricity from other countries, that is generated from nuclear or coal powerplant.

    5. If you look at the same site, you can see that the total value of imported eggs has decreased from 860 to 811 million USD

    6. This kind of pro animal legislation seems so silly to me.
Pain is simply a biological process, a reaction to physical stimuli. I believe pain only becomes relevant when it is felt by a moral agent. Only humans can be moral agents. All animals (maybe even all organisms) can feel pain, but only humans can suffer. People care about animals because they seem like they exhibit human mannerisms sometime. We anthropomorphize them. But there is enough real human suffering on this planet that ought to be dealt with first.
I guess its just easier to feel sad for a baby chicken than it is for the heroin addict yelling at you in the subway.

    7. 2024 being the year in which avian flu caused a shortage of eggs in Germany, as millions of hens had to be slaughtered.

    8. Yep, sounds like us. Same with stopping nuclear power plants and then importing lots of energy from countries still using them, because we didn’t really invest a whole lot in alternatives.

    9. Such a shame. So many zoos, wildlife parks and even private animal keepers use day-old chicks as a good food source.

Now we have to import them from neighbouring countries, for more money and with no oversight how they were kept/dispatched.

Instead of addressing actual problems in the egg/meat industry (too many animals on not enough space, heavy use of antibiotics, unethical transport for hours of livestock through europe, unethical treatment of workers in the industry), they got rid of a useful byproduct of the industry that actually didn’t involve any prolonged suffering of the animals.

I get my eggs from a friend. They have chicken. I think every German should have a chicken.
