      Wow….i kept reading 3000 in overall Europe. 5000 only in Germany is a lot….

      But remember, we can’t have air conditioning! Gotta save the environment! Who cares about the lives of 5,000 people when we single-handedly out of the 214 countries on this planet have to stop climate change all by ourselves??

      Paywall,  would like to learn where the numbers come from. And what kinds of deaths count as „Excess Deaths“  NOTE They don’t call it „heat related“ deaths, excess to what?

      The Robert Koch Institute counted 800.

      But it’s Bloomberg, so whatever.

      They didn’t die of the heat. The heat just speeded things up. After more deaths than expected you’ll see a period with less deaths than expected

      So during Covid all life was super important and not a single death acceptable, you weren’t allowed to leave your house after 10 PM had to adhere to a million very strict and restrictive rules.
      But when thousands die in a single week it’s no biggy?

      Guess politicians can’t make enough money off of Heatwaves

      So should we consider heatwaves natural disaster like floods and wildfires and take quick measures against them? If 5000 people died in a flood or wildfire people would request immediate action from the state and put them under high scrutiny.

      Similar to the excess deaths during the worst days of the covid pandemic… Don’t see the same hurge to do something about it…

      I recommend listening to More or Less from BBC about how numbers are calculated, [BBC More or Less – Does Europe suffer more heat deaths than the US?](https://www.bbc.com/audio/play/p0nsbzdv). But in short, 5000 people did not die because of the heat… Europe use a really broad way to count, if you’re in poor health and dies during the heath wave it’s counted (even if you were going to die anyway)…

      AC is wasteful and bad for the environment and the draft can give you a cold! People have lived for thousands of years without it and Only stupid Americans use it. Lüften and Rolladen to block the syn is all that’s needed; we’ve always done it this way!
