“Creatively bankrupt” and “soulless”? It’ll probably be a huge hit in the US then.

Judging by the trailers, it looks exactly the same as the first. I’m not talking narrative, I’m talking it looks damn near close to the same as the animated movie since the majority of the scenes/characters are friggin‘ animated. You know the goddess in her corrupted form? Same. Thing.

So a Disney movie.

Nothing to do with these descriptors specifically, but I don’t know why every animated movie in existence needs a live-action remake. This movie is older now for sure, but not nearly old enough to feel like it needs a rehash.
That, and the actual sequel to the original feels like it went as quickly as it came with little to no commotion. Not sure why they picked this one in particular.
The formula seems to be the oldies from the Golden age – Maleficent, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, etc. Picking this one felt very random to begin with.

It looks like the exact same movie with a different filter.

I don’t know why they wanted to make a Live Action remake of that one. It worked for the 90’s films because of the nostalgia but Moana released 10 years ago. Moana 2 released 2 years ago. And Moana 3 is in the works. They’re not even done with the animated franchise yet.

This is what happens, Donny, when the whole creative process from the top down is guided by the profit motive

The first movie came out 10 years ago. No one asked for this, maybe except for The Rock.

It’s been 10 years. Only 10 years. To have an animated have both a sequel and a live action remake within 10 years is sooo greedy

I thought Disney were stopping life-action remakes after the Snow White fiasco?

This is said about nearly every single live action remake but then they still make a lot of money and Disney keeps doing it.

Bring back 2D movies, we don’t need anymore cheap and fake looking rubbish, we don’t want AI slop or remakes we want to see real artists making magic and being supported

So like the rest of the live action remakes then?

Every shot I’ve seen looks like they are on a studio with a green screen. The lighting is off. It’s all so drab.

No surprise. It’s too recent to get remade, and it feels like it was green lighted just to boost Dwayne’s ego

I get irritated we call these live-action remakes when all companies are doing is a CGI film with a few actors in the flesh. All that’s changed is a less animated/cartoony style.

As soon as they announced it everyone knew it would suck.

The first Moana movie not even old enough to drink yet, it had no business being remade ANYTIME soon.

It feels like they decided to make a less colorful version of a beautiful movie that is only 10 years old. Of course its soulless.

I loved Moana, it really made me feel something and it’s a movie I happily go back to. Love the music.
This live action looks like the biggest piece of money grabbing garbage I’ve seen Disney put out lately. Didn’t even consider it when I saw the trailer. I wouldn’t even watch this for free on Disney+ with my subscription.
The Rock was such a boringly obvious choice and it looks like he still sucked. And the main girl looks fine but the girl who originally played Moana was the obvious best choice to me? Maybe she said no to this flaming pile of garbage. What happened to the beauty of the movie? It looks so dark and sad. It’s a really boring filmmaking choice to make an intense movie dark to convey the tone. The original was so colourful.
Disney, please stop making these. It was kind of a fun idea when the first live action came out, now we hate them. We don’t want to see the same recycled stories done worse than the animated versions. And you somehow make each live action worse as time goes on. Please make original movies. Hoppers was good, go make something else new that’s good.

They used the same graphics from the animated version, which is wild to me. This is the most obvious intellectually bankrupt production I’ve seen since Thankskilling.
