    2. Inner_Incident_6148 on

honestly amazed this thing keeps clawing back every few months, like they’re just waiting for everyone to look away

If only they had this kind of determination with things that are really important to people. Like housing crisis for f*ck sake

    4. They did this to Ireland with the Lisbon treaty. They voted no so Europe said „you sure about that?“.

    5. BigWingedDuck on

Again and again and again….damn after several rejections stop It at least for some years.
Are there no other priprities in EU?

    6. worst part is they did that before planned vacation, and the majority is needed now to block chat control.every Absent or abstained will be counted as in favor to chat control,so we’re kinda fucked..

    7. What if someone proposed something that would ban the proposing of scanning private messages?
As in if mass scanning is proposed it is just auto-rejected so that there is no risk of it being approved.
This anti-democratic, anti-human rights proposition, and all propositions like this, must go.

    8. The main group behind this is the [EPP](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_People's_Party), which [Metsola](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roberta_Metsola) is a member of.

Have a look at the group and make sure to never, ever, give any party in it your vote ever again (and if you did in the past, you could also write them and let them know they’ve lost your vote), these people go against what Europe should be and should be voted out.

Also, see who else supports it and do the same with them, it’s a pain but it’s the only way we can stop this and similar trash from ruining Europe, these people will happily sell our future for a cheque, they shouldn’t represent us

If you want to see the names: https://mepwatch.eu/10/vote.html?v=195338&country=

Also, let’s always remember who is pushing for this (please correct me if you see something incorrect):

      – Oak Foundation (since 2019 has spent over $24 million to persuade european politics and try to build consensus).
      – Craig Newmark Foundation (funds organizations that lobby for the law, including NewsGuard and other „online safety“ initiatives).
      – Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (indirectly supports through funding to Thorn and digital identification projects).
      – Thorn (the company founded by Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore – yes, those same celebrities. It has actively participated in drafting the proposal and sells AI-based scanning software).
      – WeProtect Global Alliance (a political umbrella that serves to coordinate governments, the UN, and the private sector).
      – ECPAT International and Missing Children Europe (provide moral and humanitarian cover, financed by Oak Foundation for specific campaigns).
      – FGS Global and Purpose (lobbying firms hired to manage the narrative).
      – Institutional allies pushing from within:
      – Europol (publishes alarming reports about abuse numbers, often citing data provided by the entities mentioned above; useful for creating political urgency).
      – DG HOME (European Commission), steers the actual political direction, with technical vetos, parliamentary opposition, etc.

The scheme is this (and it’s documented in the EU transparency registers and the foundations‘ reports):

      – Oak Foundation and Craig Newmark Philanthropies grant millions to WeProtect, ECPAT, and Thorn.
      – These NGOs use the funds to pay agencies such as FGS Global and Purpose.
      – The lobbyists from those agencies draft amendments, organize meetings with MEPs (Members of the European Parliament), and fund media campaigns.
      – Europol and the Commission use data produced by this ecosystem to justify the law as „necessary.“
      – If the law passes, Thorn and similar companies sell their mandatory scanning technologies to platforms (Meta, Google, Apple), closing the loop of profit.

I spammed my MEP, and I hope as many people as possible will do the same. This is atrocious and if it gets passed, it will not only be detrimental to our privacy, but will also massively weaken people’s trust to European institutions and the power of the EU as a whole.

    11. These fuckers need to be held responsible for pushing this with anti-democratic methods. This cannot continue.

    12. Democracy dies if politicans don’t act in the intrest of the people. There is only one solution now and it rhymes with trampoline.

Standard EU policy of ignoring the public and pushing unpopular policies anyway

    14. Lets see if the mods let this one stay up.

Commented on another post related to this earlier and when i went back to check the discussion it had been deleted by them.

    15. Unless Europeans take it to the streets against the imbecility of the techno-fascists in the EU, you’re gonna keep getting this shit and it’ll be worse and worse.

    16. Cute-Breadfruit3368 on

what annoys the fuck out of me is that they stay silent on the driving force behind this slapstick act.

considering how completely it would wreck all communication privacy, i´m thinking someone is getting paid by Thiel and Amodei

    17. Genuinely concerned for the future of Europe. It’s scary how they can throw aside democracy and force in anything they want. A lot of countries are becoming more capitalistic and Americanized, while also bringing in these dystopian surveillance policies.

Call me a conspiracy theorist but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that it’s happening at the same time as people are getting more and more fed up with the billionaires and big corporations, I feel like this is just an opportunity to target people who criticize them or organize protests online so the rich can keep getting richer. They don’t like people being able to share opinions or information that they can’t control.

It might seem dramatic now but I have a bad feeling about the general direction here, like we might be leaving a golden age of what made the EU good and starting to go backwards :/

I’ve always been pro-EU and not one to buy into the more crazy conspiracy theories, but this is a blatant betrayal of its citizens, they may as well openly say „Fuck you, we can do what we want and we don’t care what our people think.“

      > 🚨 **On 7 July, MEPs voted 331–303 to fast-track the return of Chat Control 1.0 mass scanning. A binding vote follows Thursday, 9 July, where an absolute majority of 361 MEPs is needed to stop it. Take action now to demand they defend your private messages.**

**Reminder that the above site has a message template and contact details for the MEPs of each contry. Please email them!**

    19. Call me a conspiracy theorist but I truly think this has some AI-bullshit behind it. I would not be surprised if OpenAI and other corpos lobbied for this to get more training data for AI since they’re probably running out on the open internet.

Not that my friends and I provide very good training data, but I don’t want my messages out there for anyone to see even if they are completely legal.

    20. Anxious_Subject_2604 on

I would name this law: The Epstein Protection Act. (EPA).

Congratulations EU. Truly showing your masters now.

    21. General-Warning-2429 on

Yeah, too bad those MEPs or the majority of them will not even open their emails or worse, those who would respond will tell us they know what’s better for the cHiLd SaFeTy.

    22. MeowMeowMiaa on

Stop killing games was killed by them despite overwhelming public and international public support, yet the most unpopular shit ever that was already rejected few times by parliament keeps returning in different form… We should seriously reconsider how our democracies work, because so far it starts to seem like we have democracy only on paper and oligarchy in practice.
