I bet his neighbors first clue that something was wrong was when a hearse backed into the McConnell’s garage for about an hour or so.

    2. *Chao, who formerly served as transportation secretary in the first Trump administration and labor secretary in the Bush administration, traveled to Beijing and met with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng just three days after McConnell’s hospitalization.*

      > One of his neighbors explained “I haven’t seen anyone”.

That’s it, that’s all there is, saved you a click.

It’s all unofficial currently, but I’ve been seeing a lot of independent pundits across both sides of the aisle saying that credible insiders have told them that McConnell has been unconscious for weeks and is likely brain dead

    5. He was dead when the EMTs arrived and then started CPR. Even if they did revive him, he had to have gone without breathing for awhile. That kinda kills your brain. They’re just keeping him „alive“ to avoid a special election.

    6. Not to be heartless, but if this is true —

Is Kentucky solid red, or some purple possibilities for a Dem to run in the special election to replace him?

Following the passage of House Bill 622 in 2024, Kentucky law now requires a special election to fill a U.S. Senate vacancy and no longer allows the governor to make an interim appointment. This recent legislative change stripped the governor of the authority to select a replacement from a party-submitted list, a process that was briefly in effect after 2021.

I wanted to see him in jail but I’ll take brain dead and done for.

It’s just creepy that they won’t release basic facts. You just know they’re busy trying to figure out how to maxium profit from this hospitalization.

Daily Beast is spam. So far our only sources are Laura Loomer, Breitbard, and Daily Beast. Give us non-conservative sources.

    10. If you are unable ro fulfill the oath you swore to a replacement should be appointed. They aren’t serving their constituents.

      He’s dead folks.

      He died 3 weeks ago.

They are just keeping him alive to make sure no democrat has the chance to take his spot or Thomas Massie.

    12. they’re weekend at mitch’s-ing him until august 4th to prevent a special election and thomas massie to slide in 🤷‍♂️

The things these people will do for power and the logistics of it are ghoulish.

    14. No more news, except a neighbor who hasn’t seen anyone there. Come on! are there no journalists in the world? We literally can’t find out where a dead/braindead guy is?

I think the American people deserve some transparency. Proof of life or proof of competency to serve in a role should be required when you are in a position that creates legislation.

Also, term limits. Serve 2 and retire.

    16. Remember, republicans do not give a fuck about „rules“ or „norms“ or „fair play“. Time for Andy to say fuck these fascists and be part of the solution or not. Tired of playing fair with a bunch of crook opponents.

The governor needs to call for the special election, force their hand. Have the republicans or McConnell staff prove he’s not brain dead. If he’s not then cool. If he is then there needs to be a criminal investigation into these criminal acts!

    18. notyourstranger on

The GOP wants to run the government „like a business“.

What US business allows an employee to stay home for months and rumored dead?

    19. Hiding an elected official’s bad health condition needs to be made illegal. His staff needs to be dragged before congress and explain themselves. Once you run for office, you shouldn’t get to hide behind privacy laws.

    20. CrypticTalker on

He’s 84 and was found unresponsive, then had CPR. I have a bit of medical training, I am not a doctor. I can tell you straight up, if you’re unresponsive and getting CPR at the ripe old age of 84, you’re almost certainly dead or your brain is scrambled eggs.

I am CPR trained. If someone is ‚getting CPR‘ that doesn’t just mean ‚oh great the doctors will just restart his heart‘, it means ‚9 out of 10 people in this situation, in the prime years of their life, will not survive‘. A frail, ailing 84 year old man has negligible odds of surviving in any meaningful sense of the word. No doctor in the world would take those odds. At that age entering cardiac arrest on the operating room table, surrounded by surgeons ready to work on you, is extremely grim. This is far worse.

He’s hooked up on a ventilator until August 3rd (so Thomas Massey or a Democrat can’t run freely for the seat), then he’ll ‚pass peacefully in his sleep‘ and the Republicans will hand-pick a Trump loyalist as his replacement. It’s a sick political move that only the lowest scum on the Earth would use for advantage.

And, I can’t think of a more fitting way to honor Mitch McConnell. He’d have done the same thing.

    21. Awkward-Speed-4080 on

How fitting that even in his death he is still an obstruction of democracy. Fuck this piece of shit forever. I hope that somehow we are able to fix our educational system so that future generations can know exactly how we got to this point and who we have to blame. I hope this cowardly, traitorous cretin is hated for forever.

    22. on_island_time on

Literally any other job, you don’t show up for a few days in a row and you are done. Why should an elected office be any different?

    23. JaSONJayhawk on

How does a public official get this much privacy over the state of their mind?   Especially with the rumors of his wife disappearing in China, it makes no sense whatsoever.  I agree we need better relations with all countries including China (as she has openly lobbied for) but it’s just obvious that something isn’t quite right without a family statement.  Or even one of the daughters disappearing from X.  I just wish there were answers and the media needs to be asking questions.

    24. Choice-of-SteinsGate on

The last time Mitch McConnell was seen near his home was on June 14 when paramedics were rushing him to the hospital after an apparent heart attack that left him unconscious.

Even his family members haven’t been seen around the home, and reporting indicates that his security detail is still at the hospital.

Rumors have been floating around about his condition, but the facts still remain unclear.

What is clear, however, is that some form of term limits or even litmus tests are needed so that we’re not electing representatives who are either on death’s door, or incapable of fulfilling their duties while in office.

There are plenty of working elderly individuals out there around the same age as McConnell who would love the opportunity to retire. People whose employment prospects are confined to a narrowing job field.

      This is unnatural.

Sadly, these folks cannot retire due to things like rising costs, low wages, growing income inequality, a lack of generational wealth, and a failing social safety net.

Yet octogenarian congressmen like Mitch McConnell have the privilege of retiring to a life of comfort and financial security, but choose not to so they can cling to power…

Or worse even, so their party can hold on to a majority.

Are we seriously content with a system that allows this to happen?

The American voter can fix this by voting in representatives who are actually reform minded, and not so power hungry that they would literally have you pry their cold, dead fingers from their seat in office.

    25. CupcakesAreTasty on

McConnell continues to prevent democracy, even in death. A fitting final act.

    26. I’ve always hated the guy, but if he had died 12 years ago I probably wouldn’t have cursed his name as much as I am now.

The damage this sack of crap did is unmeasurable. The Supreme Court corruption and appointment steal alone set this country back a generation and may end up being the catalyst for the complete downfall.

McConnell opened the door and showed Republicans just how easy it was to be openly corrupt without any repercussions. The MAGA we have now doesn’t exist without him. He’s the Emperor to Trump’s much dumber and without any redemption arc Vader.

I truly hope he was aware he dying at some point before losing consciousness. I hope he was afraid. I never pictured myself ever saying something like that about anyone, but these last few years have ended any hopeful optimism I tried holding on to. He advocated for the suffering of millions. He deserved a much worse death.

      Rot in hell Mitch.

The implications of keeping an 85 year old braindead husk on life support in order to subvert democracy are truly wild.

I really don’t want to participate in a society that not only allows this but incentivizes it.
