Not just visiting, anybody departing Japan will have this departure tax added on, residents, both Japanese and foreign. I wish these extra fees were just for tourists

Yen value keeps dropping disproportionately, so tourists will hardly notice, only screws residents
As long as the yen depreciates faster, this is a nonissue.
So basically, you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.

yes.. because when a fiat currency is struggling the last thing they would want to do is to have people coming to buy that currency.. o wait..
That’s a good thing. This revenue can be used for local infrastructure and social welfare.
