      Making the problem worse to answer a question we know the answer to with a solution no one wants.

      Edit: The world is so dumb I got Beaverton’d.

      Build data centres to make AI study all this energy usage, then a royal commission can take five years for a report on AI energy cost/benefit that immediately collects dust on the shelf

      Thank you Beaverton, for putting a spotlight on one of the dumbest circle jerks in modern times.

    4. It’s OK though, they’re closed loop so use less water. The trade off of generating more heat is totes worth it. /s

      „We are giving AI free rein in hopes of discovering how we can change the area above us and capture any harmful gasses.“

      „We call it SkyNet.“

    6. Yes, Canada has no cold territory we could possibly build AI datacenters in.

    7. We all have access to a supercomputer.. and we just use it to ELI5 everything..

      I swear the Beaverton is telling the truth more than other news.

      Satire= truth. Some how

      80% of electricity in Canada is carbon free.

      Data centers are not a cause of climate change and anyone who thinks they are can fuck off with that unscientific nonsense. Climate change is caused by emissions producing industries like automotive transportation.

    10. Guys AI will tell us how to solve climate change! We literally have no clue right now, let it cook (us to death).

      Well-played.

      One of my few gripes with the Beaverton is that none of their staff has even a reasonable grasp of LLMs and AI more generally, but this is a fantastic headline, to their credit.

      Last pod had one of them remark that they didn’t see the value in AI and my first thought was, “Really…?”

      If you’re treating it like a text and image generator, of course you’ll think that way.

      Can we stop posting fake articles? I understand they’re jokes but joke misinformation can still have a similar effect to misinformation. Also beaverton is also clearly politically biased.
