Here’s a controversial thought: Canada should buy from Russia instead. I hear they make the best underwater cruiser.

    2. South Korea was the best offer by far.

That said, Carney seems interested in integrating with the EU and we did get approved for that +100 billion EU defense loan so the optics would look poor if we didn’t go with Germany.

Both are good. It will be a win regardless. Even the losing bid will likely get something maybe in future contracts. Canada does want to strengthen ties with allies.

A friendly reminder that there’s a precisely 0.0% chance that anyone commenting on reddit knows any of the reasons why the military would pick one submarine over the other, or which of these two submarines is better in any specific way. Anyone saying „we should pick sub X because it’s better at Y“ should be ignored.

So the Korean subs are designed and built and in service and the Koreans just sailed one into Halfax. The German sub is not built yet. We have one working sub I would go with one that is designed and built and in service. The German one will have delays etc

    6. I’m voting for the South Korean deal. Seems like the best deal and a new ally long term.

    7. Both subs are good. But the SK sub is the superior sub. I also think the opportunity to manufacture other SK military hardware in Canada for export to other countries is something that will have a lasting benefit for the country, as well as spur the defense industry in general in this country.

I will be disappointed if the SK bid does not prevail.
