This is exactly what happens when major decisions are made without a realistic plan. Ireland took in thousands of Ukrainians, but there never seemed to be a credible plan for where everyone would live in the long term. We were already in the middle of a severe housing crisis, yet the government pressed ahead without ensuring the housing capacity existed.

This isn’t the fault of Ukrainians who fled a war. It’s the result of poor planning and years of failing to build enough homes. We simply don’t have enough housing plain and simple. Until that basic problem is addressed, these situations will keep repeating themselves.

So we took in people who were refugees and gave them safe haven. The war is still going on, are they not refugees anymore. Or is it just that our government has to look good by taking in more people we can’t house.
