    1. >In an editor’s note, the magazine said it was republishing the story “on the occasion of its tenth anniversary, so that our readers can judge for themselves how well his assessment of the man he now serves as vice president has stood the test of time.”

      >The original essay was written during Trump’s first presidential campaign while Vance worked at Peter Thiel’s venture capital firm, Mithril Capital Management.

      >Vance argued that many Americans turned to Trump as a “pain reliever” following mounting distrust in the government and economic decline. He called Trump’s political appeal at the time, “cultural heroin,” and predicted that supporters would eventually realize he was not necessarily the answer to their problems.

      >“Trump is cultural heroin,” he wrote. “He makes some feel better for a bit. But he cannot fix what ails them, and one day they’ll realize it.“

Vance correctly called Trump „America’s Hitler“ and then went to work for him. This says a lot about the kind of deplorable person Vance is.

JD Vance is one of the most craven pieces of shit to ever jump into politics in world history.

Elmo gonna make sure he wins though. Keep ignoring what they’re doing so you can stay planted on the couch.

The Atlantic is doing god’s work with this one. Seeing what Vance wrote about Trump back then compared to the nonsense he spews now is the perfect „receipts“ moment. He literally sold his soul for a shot at the VP office.

“Trump is cultural heroin,” he wrote. “He makes some feel better for a bit. But he cannot fix what ails them, and one day they’ll realize it.”

I guess that’d make JD “cultural fentanyl.” I can see the campaign T-shirts now…

John Olivers „Last Week Tonight“ season 13, episode 5, revealed part of Vances downslide as he morphs into a bizarre Trump fanatic. It’s a weird, mind bending trip, watching Vance go from a semi-logical power hungry politician to an orange kool-aid drinking, brainwashed MAGA cult member. Freaky!

JD Vance is a politician, plain and simple. He’s a politician that will say whatever he has to say in order to survive.

Seems like a good time for that King of the Hill „if those kids could read“ gif.

    10. What bothers me most is how smart he clearly is. I’ve no doubt in my mind he’s aware of how far back Trump is setting us, and he doesn’t care so long as he has power. Just disgusting

The wisest thing JD Vance ever wrote. Cultural heroin is exactly what Trump is. Perhaps someday he will remember why he wrote it. But I’m not holding my breath.

    12. > Vance is widely considered to be the successor to Trump’s MAGA movement after he leaves office and is favored to become the Republican nominee in the 2028 presidential race.

      Is he, though?

JD Vance, just another talking head where a dollar out weights any moral convictions he previously had.

    14. > “Trump is cultural heroin,” he wrote. “He makes some feel better for a bit. But he cannot fix what ails them, and one day they’ll realize it.”

      > …

      > Vance has acknowledged his earlier opposition and said his views changed after witnessing the president’s actions while in office.

Can’t exactly trust what this guy has to say now, can we?

    15. Leopold_Darkworth on

Whenever anyone asks why he changed his mind, he said his opinion evolved as he got to know Trump. It’s definitely that and definitrly not realizing suckling at the Trump teat is an easy and fast way to get power.
