Guess what I’m no longer interested in applying for

I think a small increase is fair to account for inflation, but not 20x lol.
Also this is ironically the first time I’ve read an English NHK news article. What the fuck are the “ ___ yen, or about __ dollars“, spread out numerous times throughout the article

Does that go for anyone regardless of what type of visas they’re staying with? whether that’s nomad visas or student visas to work visas and spousal visas

Don’t most developed countries charge similar rates? I know my country charges several times more than this.

I wonder if this will apply to those with PR applications already in…

Damn, the new Prime Minister really going full Trump like the trumpet and fangirl she is

Totally reasonable to pay a fee like this if you’re a digital nomad enjoying the fruits of their economy. It’s now $1,200 to move and get residency in Japan.

For those wondering, this will not affect applications that are submitted before October 1st and accepted after
Japan hates foreigners why would you want to go there? Baka gaijin.

Good thing is, you only pay this once you are approved. Application by itself is free. Most of the other countries I know will charge you at the time of application.
20man for a PR that does not require renewal… is a good deal, no?

no problem, 200k yen will be worth very little in the near future

who writes the USD conversion in an article when in a week time it’s going to be off … I don’t follow this website but is it a news website for Americans to be usd focused?

It’s alright guys, 2 years of processing time at Shinagawa, 24 months gives you time to save up the amount.
Although I’m guessing the application volume will drop sharply.

Fuck that’s way earlier than I expected. I was thinking April 2027. I was just debating applying this summer or waiting until just after October 1st so my husband would have over 3 years at the same company on record but I guess I need to apply quickly now and probably get rejected again🙄

I got mine back in April. I applied in November before any of the news of the changes in requirements and fees were announced, and went from being fine with the possibility of being rejected to being super stressed about it. I feel terrible for anyone who has to deal with the changes.

If that money would actually be used helping integration of non citizens, it would be more accepted, but in reality it’s just a way to milk foreign residents.

I think Japan but their current government is too much. I’ll see you guys when that party has lost power.

You know that’s a jump in price but the original being $60ish is kinda wild. 1.2k isn’t the worst.

And then they will just reject it and keep the money lol
