This is such a long process that he won’t be president anymore.. or even alive anymore.

    2. Canada and Mexico are leaving the US behind and looking for other trade partners and allies. It is a loss to the US.

    3. Villag3Idiot on

Even if they had extended or made a new deal on it, I wouldn’t have trusted Trump to have honored it anyways.

It’s still in place for the next ten years. Maybe new adults in the room will figure it out by then.

    4. Sharktopotopus_Prime on

There is no point in making deals with a lawless president who fails to honour his existing treaties. Canada will long outlast the Pedo King and his regime of criminals.

We’ll wait for Americans to wake up and kick their loser government to the curb. In the meantime, there are plenty of other reliable countries out there that are eager to do business with us.

    5. Silicon_Knight on

I’m sure he’s REALLLY pissed at the president that agreed to it eh?

On a serious note, going to take 10y, I’m sure Canada and Mexico are willing to take the risk knowing how the midterms (may) go, and 2 years later, another president (maybe?) but I’m sure he’s not got that much time left due to his current health. Could be wrong, but 10y is a long time before it expires.

Whoever was president of the US when USCMA was adopted is a fucking loser and his dad probably hated him, too.

    7. If you know anything about the contract, this doesnt mean ANYTHING. He cant get out of the deal, its fixed for something like 10 years anyways. Meaning trump will be dead before anyone can get out of that deal.

The renewal he declined is AFTER the 10y.

    8. Warm_Record2416 on

To be fair, that trade deal was negotiated by a real dumb piece of shit.  Just absolutely the worst negotiator ever.  some people are saying the guy who negotiated that dead is an illiterate sundowning traitor to the nation, actually.

    9. 🥴 sometimes America’s first means interacting with people nearby to us, not secluding ourselves and trying to be self reliant.

    10. He’s gonna say, „whoever negotiated that trade was an idiot.“ Well the idiot is the guy whose saying this. I think he wanted to blame on Biden and Obama but no man, YOU negotiated that trade

    11. PuffyBlueClouds on

“Trade deficits” are such a stupid thing for Trump to grab onto. Of course the United States buys more than it sells to Canada and Mexico. The United States is massive. It is also an incredibly affluent country. Trade deficits are not bad things lol.

    12. The same deal he made and praised. There are literal tweets on him talking about it as the greatest deal.

    13. Isn’t this the same deal he himself negotiated and claimed was the best deal ever (even though it was basically the same deal he started with) in his first term?

    14. Utgaard_Loke on

I have an idea: increase trade between Mexico and Canada and leave the USA and Trump out of it.

It was renegotiated from NAFTA (a Reagan initiative), but its failure may hasten the already-impending decline of the average U.S. auto .. already forecast by 2040 on affordability concerns.

Unless the auto makers share their AI-robot cost savings with consumers… nah. I imagine the fossil fuel execs, car execs will be in the WH pleading.. Could be TACO time yet again.

If not, .. the Democrats, when they return to power, have to decide on extending affordable auto logistics .. vs satisfying their environmental wing as the GOP, this time, gets the blame for plummeting auto employment but then having to deal with said unemployment.

    16. Headline should be „trump declines to renew major trade deal he created and wrote“

    17. hollywood20371 on

Tell us about that last deal he tore up with Iran. How’s that going for us?

    18. watchitbend on

No deal this clown and his boot lickers make is worth a pinch of shit. They do whatever they want anyway, and grossly violate existing agreements, deals and laws as and when it suits them. I know we have to attempt for the sake of appearances, but I don’t think anyone really gives a shit what the yanks say anymore.

They tell their own people „we’re respected again“ , but the clear truth is the whole world is openly laughing at the US currently, and then quietly cursing them for fucking everything up and making all of our lives unnecessarily difficult so they can enrich themselves.

Imbeciles running their country into it’s demise.

    19. Deals with the US are meaningless. They don’t keep their word. Just look at this deal and the Iran deal and other deals. They just cancel anytime they want.

    20. BadmiralHarryKim on

We seriously need to restructure the world order so that Americans can only screw themselves over from now on.

    21. GoodGoodGoody on

For those wondering about the timing: It’s no coincidence today is Canada’s national day.

And Canadians are having a gooood time.

    22. Wise_Control_1640 on

      Let me get this straight.

The deal he reached that he said on 1-30-20 is „…
the fairest, most balanced, and beneficial trade agreement we have ever signed into law.  It’s the best agreement we’ve ever made“ is now trash.

      Gee, who would have thought

    23. chriskot123 on

The deal that HE made with them after ripping up NAFTA. This fuckin guy sucks.

    24. VanDenBroeck on

It is only in year 6 of a 16 year term and does not expire until 2036. That means the next POTUS will have plenty of time to renew it or enter into negotiations to modify it. Trump is just flapping his lips.

    25. I was thinking how things could be expensive and that would awesome! So tired of winning

    26. Welp, there goes your economy kids

It was good while it lasted

The ’90s really were the „Good ol‘ Days“

    27. blackmobius on

Just more screwing up the long term diplomacy that future gop will blame on democrats

    28. Ah, just like the deal he gave up on with Iran. You know, the one he negotiated himself.

    29. Cool_Objective_7829 on

Iran was an abject failure. Gotta go back to the old well to rile up the base.
What better target than our neighbors? I bet he’ll threaten to annex both countries again before the end of the summer.

    30. 25th Amendment, Section 4. This man is unwell and mentally unfit to hold office.

    31. What an idiotic, ham fisted negotiator. He thinks if he throws this out there Canada and Mexico will come crawling back and give him whatever he wants, when they know damn well their best bet is to wait out his inevitable departure.

    32. No_Road_6732 on

Bad idea. Canada is one of few countries that the US has a net trade surplus. Canada is also working on trade deals with the EU, China, S Asia, and others. The US is going to end up being frozen out.

    33. HoppyMcScragg on

He’s so great at making deals that he later decides he doesn’t like the deals he’s made.

    34. Ah yes, that terrible, awful trade deal made by, checks notes, donald trump.

    35. Canada here: he broke the deal twice, even the one he negotiated. So why make deals with him. As well as this means there is a 10 year hold to the agreement we can wait….
