Melat Kiros, a 29-year-old democratic socialist, has just defeated 15-term Democratic Representative Diana DeGette in Colorado. The crazy part is that Kiros was born *after* the start of DeGette’s first term in Congress. Finally, we are getting more fresh, progressive voices who actually represent the people in Congress!

The whole „sit down and wait your turn“ approach from Democrats when it comes to these races is precisely why Democratic leadership is so old and out-of-touch. They discourage primary challenges and expect people to wait until the incumbent decides to retire before they can run.

I’m very glad we’re seeing more successes like this, where Kiros decided she wasn’t going to wait and went full-bore. She earned this win and I hope it provides more encouragement to candidate in MI, MN, MO, and WI in August. There are more seats to win.

Melat Kiros is 29 years old. She was born in May of 1997.

DeGette is a 15-term incumbent who took office in January of 1997.

Eugene Debs‘ legacy 100 years in the making.

Democrats have been fucking Democratic Socialists since our first non-consecutive 2-term president.

Betrayal doesn’t come from your enemies, it comes from your friends.

    5. Pleasantly surprised my state pulled it off.

We’re really a corporate Dem stronghold but it’s nice to see we might actually become as progressive as we are perceived to be elsewhere.

The Democratic Party since 2008 has been saying they’re the only ones who can stop Republicans, and have proved since the historic losses in 2010 and onward that they cannot.

They then proceeded to lose to Trump, followed by giving us the first 1 term Democratic President since Jimmy Carter, and then lost to Trump *again*.

The Democratic Party lost it’s energy and identity during Obama’s first term and never got it back.

      It’s time for something different.

The issues pushed by Democratic Socialists are popular, and many of the candidates that are a part of it are young and energetic. The establishment Democrats need to understand that Democratic Socialists will vote with them on many key issues, while the GOP never will, so don’t fight them – find a way to combine their power and influence to oppose the GOP.

How bout them apples… 30 years(aka 15 terms) of bullshit representation ousted by someone born the same year she originally won her seat. Bye Felicia. Power to the People. They getting nervous y’all. Money can’t buy this type of momentum.

Every DSA style candidate makes it harder and harder for the moderate establishment to control the message and the future of the democratic party. Keep voting them in this election and those to come actually gaining control of the democratic party will require years of work.Keep voting

The democratic party old guard and republicans are about to massively ramp up attacks against the progressive wing.

Welcome to the new era. Have to keep this up all summer long and into the fall (to start)

I don’t want young folks in the army, I want them in the government. Because THAT is what keeps our troops and citizens safe.

      Good result.

Shocked. Pleasantly shocked, but figured DeGette would relinquish D1 when she died.

    15. I wish to thank the law firm of Sidley Austin, which fired Kiros for an article she wrote in defense of Palestinians and those who were being persecuted for protesting against the genocide in Gaza. Thank you genocide- supporting Sidley Austin: without you, we would not have this brilliant and principled new congresswoman from Colorado!

Maybe the old guard will read the writing on the wall and try to meet them half way rather than saying you will have to grab the neoliberalism from their cold dead hands like Charlton Heston

So thrilled to see this. I pray this is the beginning of a true, sustained movement that better explains what socialism is to those who are confused by and/or demonize it, and how the DSA is the only viable future of the left.

This is why I get so annoyed by people yelling for term limits. People can be primaried. If you don’t like your representative, canvass, vote, do something.

She may not be my rep, sadly mines is that chickenshit Evans, but I’m glad Colorado got themselves a rep who will fight for the working class.

Hopefully this makes up for Polis turning out to be a real shitbag.

    20. The Democrats about to realize that just saying „we’re not Trump“ over and over is not a party platform. This is a long time coming.

no wonder establishment dems are so mad, it looks like they actually have to start acting on what they preach instead of pretending they’re better than republicans. Now they have to choose between keeping their jobs or making their donors happy LOL.
