It’s ok for white evangelicals to be sinners, if they earn more than your pastor and if they stand for fascist values and help your pastor milk your wallet hard with their hateful rhetoric…

You can tell Republicans are grasping at straws to shift the focus away from Ken Paxton being the worst candidate for Senate in decades because they’re already stooping to ad-hominen attacks, AI generated trash and pathetic lies about Talarico that play well with a base/audience of hypocritical half wits.
And MAGA Republicans will happily eat that shit up because they’d like nothing more than to have their phobias and their culture war grievances validated by fellow conservatives clamoring on and on about woke this, gender that, betamales, veganism, testosterone levels, whatever…
That said, I’m glad that Paxton won his primary. He’s much more likely to alienate voters and/or convince them to stay home because he’s such a rotten and repellent creep.
Paxton has been involved in countless scandals and has an extensive history of fraud, bribery, corruption, graft and adultery of course.
He also offered clemency to a child sex abuser. No surprise there.
His closest aides even reported him to the FBI in 2020 for abusing his office repeatedly.
He was impeached by his own party on 16 articles of abuse of power.
Do you know how corrupt you have to be to get impeached by Texas Republicans as a slavishly pro Trump Republican?
These things make him a top contender in the eyes of MAGA, but it’s not MAGA Republicans who will decide this election.
Donald Trump’s national support is cratering, which doesn’t bode well for candidates who he’s personally endorsed.
Now while I don’t necessarily have great expectations of Texas voters, I still think Talarico has a real chance of defeating a scumbag like Paxton. The two couldn’t be farther apart in terms of their integrity and their very accordance with the law.
Talarico is far and above a better candidate.
He has a cleaner record and a more sophisticated platform other than „vote for me because I’ll do Trump’s bidding.“
His lack of scandals stands in stark contrast to Paxton’s many controversies.
He has a genuine desire to represent the interests of his constituents, and moreover, he actually has a moral compass.
So Republicans are having to resort to teasing him like insufferable children because they cannot, in good faith, attack things like his actual character, his sincerity, his anti elitist positions, his accessibility as a candidate, his religious background, and his support for more populist reforms.
Talarico’s faith is a huge selling point for him.
He’s a better representation of Christianity than Paxton FOR SURE, but also the religious hypocrites on the right who flout the very teachings of Christ.
Talarico went to seminary school but still believes strongly in the separation of church and state.
He condemns all forms of state sponsored religion. Unlike MAGA, he chooses the constitution and democratic ideals over religious nationalism.
He calls out the religious right on their hypocrisy, says in so few words that Jesus advocated for the sick, the needy, the poor, and contextualizes the lessons of Jesus as a guide on how to be more tolerant, respectful, and accommodating of outsiders and marginalized segments of our society.
As a political candidate, he’s a pretty rare example of consistent Christian ethics.
With Talarico’s message about the class conflict and his relatable frustrations aimed at the rich and corporations; with his authentic religious background; his emphasis on inclusivity and equality; his distaste for culture wars; and his populist-progressive appeal, he has a REAL chance to win against a used condom of a human like Paxton who has demonstrated a PREFERENCE for corruption, depravity, dishonesty, criminality and fraud.
And where Talarico has proven himself a Christian not just in name only, Paxton has shown a clear departure from the most basic of Christian morals and principles.
Talarico’s primary win in Texas was lifted by Hispanic voters.
Trump has lost over half his support from Hispanic voters since the 2024 election.
This election could very well be decided by a voting bloc that Trump has deeply alienated.
Talarico sees Christian ethics and progressivism as compatible. As opposed to „Christians“ on the right who see religion and ideologies of white nationalism as synonymous with one another.
Talarico supports equality and inclusivity for the LGBTQ community and vulnerable groups, a notion that enrages MAGA because they’ve made hating these communities of people central to their identity.
He supports public education and the social safety net and opposes school privatization efforts and school voucher programs.
These programs not only redirect funds away from public schools and towards religious and private institutions, but they also threaten to fracture the public education system, police the curriculum, and they disproportionately punish low income, and underprivileged students and families.
He also criticizes billionaires, their outsized influence over our elections and policy making decisions, and he frames our current situation as a class conflict.
Talarico condemns Super PACS and seeks out grassroots support.
The GOP is terrified of up-and-comers like Talarico; alarmed by his populist charm, his oratory skills and general sincerity.
They are haunted by the idea of a progressive Christian and fear that they could lose to someone who represents the interests of most constituents for once, whether those constituents know it or not.
This is contrary to Ken Paxton who is unfathomably corrupt, morally bankrupt, self serving and scandal plagued.
A dishonest MAGA clown and election denier who is parading around as a Trump junkie with no shame…
He has no consistent values, no regard for the truth, and no real platform outside of pledging his undying fealty to Trump.
