    1. Ukraine’s war made me realize how truly f*ed up the world politics is. If everyone had really followed through with sanctions and embargoes against Russia, this war would have ended in one year. But here we are, four years later.

    2. Seems, so do most electronics that work. Issue with globalization because when you need it to work, you’re not sourcing it from China where cheap labor and copycats guarantees you just don’t know what you are getting.

    3. Not surprising. Japanese always profit of war.

Just research how Japan used the Vietnam war to proop up their economy manufacturing many goods and military components for the US to wage war in Vietnam

Without that War, its possible Japans ecomomy would have been even weaker than now

    4. To restrict things at the component level, you’d have to restrict the entire Third World, the communist bloc, and China, making it pretty much impossible to stop using Japanese parts. Aside from that, if you look at the bootleg „Japanese“ products from China on sites like AliExpress, they have no problem stamping „Made in Japan“ on stuff they cloned locally. You definitely need to take that into account too.

    5. Famously, Russians were purchasing 2nd hand PlayStation consoles all over the world to be scrapped for parts to be used for war.

It is the same case with pretty much every coutry that does any kind of electronics.

    6. Throwaway-Addict on

Hundred percent of Israeli missiles come contain American or European parts.

    7. Puzzleheaded-Twist-7 on

Holy shit. I’m Russian and I had no clue about it. I know about Chinese and North Korean but Japan? Did Putin promise them Kuril Islands?

    8. pepehandreee on

Yes, and I bet 100% of them contain Chinese part, and partially Indian too.

Welcome to a globalized economy where supply chain is everyone’s business, idk, this trend started couple decades ago, but good for them to finally noticed.

Like why tf r dip ship politician acting surprised pikachu face? Or do they really think it is possible to turn the entire world against Russia?

    9. Japan is a strong ally of Ukraine and been vocal against Russia.

This is just Russia buying Japanese stuff through back channels.

    10. This comes up all the time, and the parts in question are usually so cheap & ubiquitous it’s like saying they contained screws made in America.

Common electronic components are so cheap & so widely distributed that it would be impossible to control them any more that you could control who buys nuts & bolts or haribos across international borders.

There’s mainstream commercial microcontrollers out there that cost $0.20 and you can fit 100+ of them in a thimble.

    11. If there is a way to earn money, you will always find someone willing to do it. Capitalism, Baby.

It’s impossible to stop secondary sales of easily available commercial goods and electronics globally. A Russian buyer could very easily pay a contact anywhere in the world to buy these products then ship them to Russia-friendly states to finally move them into Russia.

I mean, yeah, Russians breathe Ukrainian air as well, at least until we stop the wind.

    14. This is just silly, drones are not hammer, they are made of 1000 parts. I’m pretty sure 100% of russian drones include parts from EU and USA.

    15. TurbulentMiddle2970 on

American components, Russian components…….ALL MADE IN TAIWAN!!!

    16. Mammoth-Charge2553 on

Are we even sure that they’re genuine japanese parts? I’m fairly sure counterfeiting japanese semiconductors is a huge business in west Taiwan.

    17. Tough_Substance7074 on

Yeah, and the Russian war industry is entirely dependent on machine tools and software that is primarily a product of Germany. This shit has always been the case. Capitalism rules here, not nation states or alliances or ethical considerations or anything else. The only consistency is the consistency of business.

    18. Japan is fine, now shut up about that and tell me how many screws were from China

    19. Intrepid_Top_2300 on

Well it’s pretty obvious Russians didn’t make the parts. Putin’s too busy throwing bodies at Ukraine to allow some to stay alive and work in manufacturing.

If his insinuation and I really hope it isn’t is that electronics should be regulated and have IDs listed in them to stop them working when used for anything else than sorry I refuse to go with that approach. I hope he isn’t but it sounds like that is where the governments have to go to achieve a complete embargo if you are concerned of new chips ending up in the war front.

    21. Hairy_Reindeer on

China has everything and they are not part of the western sanctions on Russia. So they can sell Russia (almost) anything.

    22. PennStateInMD on

That’s a lot different from saying Russian missiles and drones contain 90% Japanese parts.

    23. PyroDragons123 on

Depends on what sort of parts they are. If they are common parts then does it really matter which country they come from? The most that you could do is force them to switch providers or how they’re ordering it.

    24. Automatic_Bus_7634 on

There was a story not that long ago about a Russian missile containing like 80% American parts. There is a real black market for this stuff, it doesn’t mean Japan is supporting Russia

    25. RealChemistry4429 on

And 100% of Ukrainian drones contain European parts? Or the European money to buy the parts.
