It hurts because it should be a celebration about all that is amazing about America, but given that ICE are sending people to prison for 50 years for letting off fireworks, it seems to me meet that we should boycott the whole display.

If they sit there with an empty field behind them and say „whoa!! look at these crowds!!!“ it becomes apparent that it’s MAGA/Trump propaganda, not news or even entertainment anymore. But they don’t care. They have a party and a president to support, and that’s their job, no matter what.

Imagine that same clip from Russian TV? The EXACT same clip would get Americans laughing and giggling about how stupid Putin and Russian media are. „haha!! That Russian news anchor just claimed an empty field is a big crowd!! He must be terrified of Putin, or just desperate for approval!!! How can they even pretend that’s news??“

Based on national park service numbers, on average over 60,000 people will visit the national mall daily. If you go to the mall on a regular weekday there are lots and lots of people there. I recently did a wedding photoshoot with a couple on the steps of the Lincoln Monument and there was a crap ton of people there. The images we see of magafest look sparsely attended compared to a regular „county fair“ type event but that’s not the comparison we should be making. There are fewer people there than there would be if nothing was going on.

All the negativity surrounding America’s State Fair got me searching for images and videos from fair goers and the results are more depressing than I could have imagined. The exhibit from Alabama was nothing more than a few half-assed posters mounted on foam core board. One showing golf course locations, another goofy characterizations of famous Alabamans. Unfortunately, Alabama was the highlight, most of the state exhibitions sit empty. Don’t believe it. Search for yourself…
