How do we let our elected officials away with such incompetence?

It’s pretty embarrassing that a country as wealthy as Ireland doesn’t even have the barest of minimal capabilities in so many areas of defence and security.
Not very neutral to have a NATO warship outside Dublin.

So a French frigate is operating just outside Irish waters with a right of self-defence – only a fool would believe they will be consulting An Garda Siochána before they act

People wouldn’t be annoyed by increased defense spending it they media did push the Russia boogeyman so much. Obviously Russia is a threat to Europe but McEntee herself admitted on RTE Russia isn’t a military threat to Ireland. They need to present the argument as „We are neutral but we can’t be defenceless“ and not as „AHHHHH IF WE DON’T INCREASE OUR DEFENCE SPENDING WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIE QUICK LETS JOIN NATO“
