But Finland is full of stubborn people. Even if the parents „don’t let“ them get married, the child wouldn’t listen to their opinion.

First or all, how could they deny their offspring marrying anyone they like? Not like you need a permission from your racist parent.

How could any parent ’not let‘ their child marry someone?

I’m surprised that it’s so low %, would like to know how this is asked/calculated, how many ppl has answered, wich part of finland they have asked, because i don’t know anyone who says no for that

This is the wrong sub to post the „would you let your adult child do x thing in Finland“. Parents here do not decide who their adult children marry. Even if they voice their opinion about it, it will be done in an extremely careful way as to not impose any direct thoughts.

It’s a fake map that’s been circulating for a long time. The link doesn’t work and as stated in previous discussions about the matter on Reddit, it’d be weird for Eurostat to contain stats from non-European countries as well.

How could I prevent my adult child doing whatever the hell they damn please?
Especially my daughter, saying I would not prefer something would … backfire.

Definitely not.

Why are most people in the comments sticking to the irrelevant part, obviously letting child to marry in this context means would they approve of it, it’s just an awkward translation or bad phrasing. Like cmon, basic reading comprehension.

That source doesn’t lead anywhere so I would be very skeptical about this map

I don’t think „let“ is the appropriate word when talking about Finns. Maybe „would you be happy, if…'“ might be the question here. I cannot imagine any Finn asking their parents‘ opinion – let alone permission – when choosing a life-partner.

Fake. Finnish parents don’t even think they should have a say in their children’s choice of partner, so they can’t even answer the question.

This map may be bs, but in case of Finland, I dont think it’s that far off honestly. There are a lot of backwards, racist people in the eastern and northern parts of Finland outside the bigger cities. I have seen my step-father get a gun and shooting it in the air just to scare off some wandering south-east asian people from the nearby forest path. Just because they were there and they were brown. In many circles even in the cities, especially in a male-dominated industries, racist jokes and use of „n-word“, is commonplace.

I haven’t asked anyone this question, so no idea.
