I’m sure revenue is very interested to know where these signs are going up

    2. Silent_Pattern_1407 on

Ah sure.. it is easier to avoid paying taxes if there is no trace of income..

Help businesses neglect their tax duties?

Are we going to pretend tax avoidance is something to be encouraged?

    4. The best part about these posters is the bit where the fail to consider the percentages they lose in managing cash, transporting cash, paying people to count cash; and also to pay the banks for processing their cash when it comes time to lodge or otherwise get change..

      Banks get nothing

      Card processing companies get nothing

      Tax man gets nothing

Why the fuck should the rest of us be taxed into oblivion while others ask us to help them avoid paying taxes.

Lol, this is nonsense from the owner. With cash they have handling + fees. Anyone who has worked with cash knows this. The real reason is ideological and/or tax dodging.

It’s costs more to lodge cash as a business than it does in card transactions fees, so where are they all keeping their money?

Why Is Every Word Capitalised Like This, it’s like a Fall Out Boy song title

    9. Any time I see something like this my immediate assumption is that the business owners is trying to dodge as much tax as possible.

I don’t play ball with that like of carry on.

    10. There’s a coffee shop I go to quite regularly near where I live (in Spain). It’s a wee independently owned place that sells specialty import coffee.

Was in the other day and got chatting with the owner, and while I was paying for stuff he started writing down numbers in a little book. Asked him what it was about, and he said he’s started keeping a list of all the commission he has to pay for card transactions and it was a not insignificant amount- something like 100 euros a week being eaten by the banks got him having the ‚privilege‘ of accepting card payments.

I’ve started looking at these ‚cash is king‘ places a bit differently since he said that because honestly, the banks get enough of my money already!

    11. Lads they are not wrong, the bank takes 1/2 out every hundred bags of chips. If they keep doing that eventually they’ll have all their money for nothing and thier chips for free.

    12. I’m paying with card out of spite. Cash is great but this is clearly tax avoidance behaviour. Handling cash is not that much cheaper if you’re trying to avoid processing charges because having staff trained to count it and handle it correctly, and inevitably, the bank will charge the fee all the same once they try to lodge it back to their own account.

I don’t know why, but I really hate the people who say „cash is king“ like I go into immediate dislike mode when I hear someone use that phrase

I don’t see the issue. If the owner prefers cash then it’s up to them.

Simply because it costs money to the business owner to have a card pay facility,

Similar thing started in other countries. The answer was to register the tills with tax department, so every sale is online and seen by them, cash or not. At that point the onus was on the customer to make sure they get a receipt with the tax information.

    17. rinleezwins on

Whenever a business says they prefer cash, I instantly assume they avoid taxes.

    18. rustic_advice on

I wouldn’t mind paying cash but in return I expect a receipt showing you made the sale officially. Still works, right?

    19. lokiguinan669 on

      Banks get 0%
      Card companies get 0%
And more importantly revenue gets 0%

    20. Dry_Response832 on

      Revenue also gets 0%

      Let me guess Roma Takeaway?

Our local fast food frequently has card machine broken. At this stage no one remembers when was it actually working last time.

I’d rather see this than card only places. Euro is the legal tender – if you are operating in eurozone you are obligated to accept euros, I worked in service and it disproportionally affects older people.
