Hitler insists he “did not take aim“ at Poland as he was planning on invading everyone.

    3. Some parts from this sad attempt at gaslighting the nation:

      >U.S. Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra insists U.S. President Donald Trump is not taking aim at Canada with his tariff policy and past comments about not needing anything from one of its closest allies.
      >
      >“We put tariffs on every country in the world. We did not take aim at Canada,” Hoekstra said in an exclusive broadcast interview with CTV News chief political correspondent Vassy Kapelos.
      >
      >…
      >
      >Pressed repeatedly by Kapelos on whether he should understand Canada’s position based on Trump’s rhetoric and tariff policy, Hoekstra said the U.S. would not respond that way.
      >
      >“We would take a look at our business community, where we’re doing well. We wouldn’t go to our largest trading partner, and say there’s a rupture, and we’re actually going to be looking somewhere else,” Hoekstra said.
      >
      >Pressed again on Trump’s rhetoric leading to Canada’s hesitance to further integrate with the U.S, Hoekstra pushed back, saying the president is “willing to do business with Canada.”
      >
      >“There were only two countries that responded in a strongly negative way,” Hoekstra added. “The rest of the world, we’ve negotiated trade agreements. We’ve worked on frameworks, and those types of things. We did not take aim at Canada.”
      >
      >…
      >
      >Asked whether Trump has conveyed to him his current position on the trilateral trade deal, Hoekstra said he would leave it up to the president to “outline with clarity exactly when he’s ready and prepared to make an announcement.”
      >
      >Pressed on a timeline for that, Hoekstra said it could be ahead of next week’s CUSMA deadline, or sometime in July, adding: “I don’t think it will go into August.”
      >
      >Hoekstra also told Kapelos both countries are “not anywhere close to announcing any type of a framework or an interim agreement.”
      >
      >…
      >
      >On Thursday, the prime minister was asked to respond to Hoekstra’s latest comments to CTV News. He said Canada will not accept a “bad deal” with Trump.
      >
      >“What I have seen with the president is that you’re not close to making a deal, and then you make a deal,” Carney said. “It doesn’t mean the deals are good deals, but it means being prepared, having done the work, knowing what you want.”

It’s amazing that the US administration are continuing to claim, in the face of a mountain of evidence otherwise, that they haven’t been targeting Canada with their rhetoric or policies. That they have been targeting other nations as well isn’t really relevant to this discussion.

    4. You, sir, are a walking, talking rectum, and I wish you’d do more walking and less talking.

I did not call you a walking, talking rectum. (see how that doesn’t work at all?)

Oh gee, what a shocker, Hoekstra is trying to gaslight an entire country. My words to him, always, is „fuck off, you licker of boots“

    7. We insist that he needs to go back to United States. He is not fit to be an ambassador. We don’t need another „Trump“ in Canada.

    8. KingRabbit_ on

I don’t know why our media keeps going back to this complete and utter asshole again and again for commentary as if what he says makes any kind of sense.

We can’t even get a fucking bridge open that we paid for. „Willing to do business“ – what utter nonsense.

Did this idiot not hear all the ‘51st state’ and ‘governor Trudeau/Carney’ bullshit?

    10. Sweetchildofmine88 on

“Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, a Trump ally, on X when all 50 states certified Trump’s Electoral College victory last month, „They skipped Canada. We’ll fix that next time!“”

“They’re having a hard time up there in Canada now because, as you know, with tariffs everyone’s coming into our country,” Trump told the assembled military generals and U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. He then claimed that “Canada called me a couple of weeks ago, they want to be part of it,” referring to the Golden Dome defence shield. His response was characteristically blunt: “Well, why don’t you just join our country. You become 51—become the 51st state—and you get it for free.”

„Somebody drew that line many years ago … like with a ruler, just a straight line right across the top of the country,“ Trump said at [Tuesday’s meeting](https://www.npr.org/2025/05/06/nx-s1-5387465/trump-carney-canada-tariffs). „When you look at that beautiful formation, when it’s together — I’m a very artistic person — but when I looked at that beaut, I said, ‚That’s the way it was meant to be.‘ “

Save the BS for someone else, please!

That actually works down there, the „don’t believe your eyes and ears strategy“

    16. Hoekstra’s really drinking that Kool-Aid.

Trump specifically singled out Canada and Mexico using „fentanyl“ as a means to bypass Congress.

    17. Did….did the US envoy just try to gaslight an entire country?

We remember. The elbows are still up.

It’s too bad Canadian troops rescued his starving parents in Holland.

    19. Can’t stand this idiot. Don’t trust your eyes and ears he’s telling us. FFS.

    20. So.. the whole if you become a state there will be no tariffs thing was a figment of our collective imagination?

    21. mangoserpent on

Hoekstra seems to be stuck in an endless loop of being verbally abusive and also blaming Canada for the words he uses.

Bottom line: the most awesome thing that could ever happen is for the media to completely ignore him 25/7.

    22. Why is he talking about this? We aren’t taking aim at the US with our travel habits and liquor purchases…

Two can play this game you clowns.
