I’m surprised this hasn’t happened much earlier, they threw the french and french allied troops out and replaced them with very ineffective russian mercs, as have the other nations that have had coups and threw out the french that were former french colonies (that until recently had good reasons to dislike france, but they’ve reformed most of said reasons afaik).

Before the French left, pretty much all of the country was controlled by the central government. Now, most of the country is controlled by Al Qaeda. Blaming their problems on the French caused them to be mostly controlled by Al Qaeda. Burkina Faso wanted the Russians to help. They did nothing. As is to be expected.

These African countries are doomed. America has no interest here unlike in Middle East, and Europe had lost all will and power to intervene. On top of that western democracies are too afraid to be called „neocolonialism“ to do anything meaningful. In time, all that will be left there are China/Russia sponsored dictators and various bands of terrorists.
