Before entering aviation, she was already a two-time Cycling World Champion (1897 & 1898) and a celebrated stunt performer known as „The Human Arrow.“

In 1910, she became the first Belgian woman to earn a pilot’s licence. During the First World War, she carried out reconnaissance flights before later running an ambulance service.

Despite these achievements, she’s far less well known today than many other early aviation pioneers.

    2. „Une aimable jeune fille“… Albert, please.

„Elle a prouvé que le courage et l’audace n’ont jamais été le monopole exclusif des hommes“. Ok, nice save.

    3. Of course she was… bloody overachiever! 😄 Jokes aside, I absolutely love seeing posts like this. Every woman deserves to be celebrated, but the truly exceptional ones also deserve to be highlighted regularly on reddit 🙂 ❤️

Thanks for shining a spotlight on her!

At my company a meeting room named after her, but never learned her story. Thanks for sharing.
