      I still remember that day. We were on a coach heading to the point to see AC/DC when it was announced on the radio.

      Was watching TV3 this morning….Paul Williams was on.

      He said a Garda turned up at the scene, realised it was Veronica and immediately called Williams who drove out to the scene.

      Rather than informing her next of kin…..the Guards rang another journalist.

      Consequences of the war on drugs. This was avoidable. Nobody is shooting each other up over a crate of whiskey.

      Edit: Downvote away. Al Capone was fueled by prohibition and went on a massacre. Bad policy was a gift to his enterprise. Again, all of that was avoidable.

      Shocking crime and it had seismic affect on how organised crime was prosecuted in Ireland. She was a very brave women, especially with children, who stood up for her values and paid the price with her life.

      The dramatization film of the events staring Cate Blanchet is also very good for those unaware of her plight.

      High end Criminals had it good until they done this.

      Probably one of these events that everyone in Ireland remembers what they were doing when they heard about it. 30 years feels like last week.

      By a bizarre set of coincidences we were there (not the shooter!), driving for a weekend at the Glencree P&R centre. 

      Gotta say we were not „shocked“. Recklessly pursuing murderous vermin is not going to end well, but the lady had guts! 
      Holland somehow escaped justice but died alone in an Isle of Wight jail after a subsequent crime. Burn in Hell.

      The version of Fields Of Athenry from the film tells an all new story of the boy singing it.**Brian O’Donnell**. He was an 11-year-old street busker from Dublin.

      Every time someone around me does cocaine or another recreational drug I think of Veronica and hope she didn’t die in vain.

      Ireland has some of the best anti-organized crime and and anti-money laundering policing in the world because of that day.

      She was fighting to disrupt the criminals journalistically and ultimately she brought them all down but it cost her her life.

      I remember the entire tone shifted to „Give them everything they need“ when it came to what the Guards were asking for.

      When you think about it, you hear in other countries about organized criminals who are untouchable or above the law due to corruption, threats etc. It doesn’t happen here, the Guards for all their faults are able to make organized criminals lives hell.
