Its a law in 10 days whether he signs it or not.
It would be funny for him to to be attached to it though.

So this blew up for a two line comment. A little more context since this is rising. There is a tactic known as [Pocket Veto](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pocket_veto) which is a tactic that can be used tied in with congress being out of session. There seems to be a lot of takes on when congress is in and out of session. [According to the House’s own calendar](https://www.house.gov/legislative-activity) they are in session up to and including the 2nd of July. There is then a week of District work, then they return to session on the 13th.
What does Mike Johnson, Republican Speaker of the House, say about this?
>“He has a window of time before he has to sign a bill, and he’s going to use a little bit more of that window of time, and we’re going to go through this together,” the speaker said at a House GOP leadership news conference, adding that it is his “estimation” that Trump will sign it within the 10-day window the Constitution sets for the president to sign bills before they automatically become law.
What about Senate Majority Leader John Thune?
>Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., laughed when reporters asked him about Trump canceling the signing. “I just heard that. … I guess I would say at this point I don’t have any observations about that,” he said.

I’m amazed at the cash grab that is the real ID. It’s a nightmare to get, but once you are in the tsa line you throw them 45$ and you magically good to go for 10 days. It’s a scam.

Trump is so focused on trying to steal the election, he’s going to give it away. It’s a pretty easy attack ad to go “we passed a bill to lower your housing costs. Republicans vetoed it anyway.” At this point, we’re too divided politically for people switching parties to be a meaningful slice of the pie in a single election, but turn out matters.
The conservative voters are less likely to come out of Trump is holding up a bill that will help them so he can demand voter ID. Yes, those voters want voter ID, but they don’t have resolve. GOP support for the iran war disappeared as soon as gas spiked. There is no chance that they’re willing to pay more for housing due to vague voter fraud allegations.
Meanwhile, liberal voters are going to be upset that Trump is holding up something positive so he can exert more control over elections, and they’ll be more likely to turn out to avoid a legislature that has completely capitulated to Trump.

To be clear—the SAVE Act will require every person who has changed their names to document all name changes and provide paperwork.
That includes all married women who changed their names.
All this paperwork takes time to assemble from state vital records and so on, and the plan seems to be to enact it when that time is too short.
That’s so they can steal midterms.
It’s targeted at trans folk with collateral damage of women (and anyone else).

Procedurally, a few things can happen:
1) *Standard Veto and possible veto override*: Trump vetos and sends it back. 2/3 of each chamber votes to override the veto. Bill becomes law.
2) *Automatic law without signature*: Trump lets his hissy fit last for 10 days (excluding Sundays) and Congress does not adjourn, at which point the bill automatically becomes law with signature.
3) Pocket Veto: Trump’s hissy fit lasts 10 days and Congress (likely the House) adjourns during this same period of time. Because the bill cannot be returned to the originating chamber with objections, the bill can be “pocketed” and dies. Congress cannot override a pocket veto, so the bill would have to be reintroduced and go through the legislative process again.
With Johnson as Speaker, the potential for option 3 exists…because of course he would do that, being the lickspittle that he is.

They need to stop calling it a „Voter ID“ law. It isn’t „Voter ID“. It’s much more suppressive than that. Even if you have legal ID, like a state-issued driver’s license, you still wouldn’t be allowed to vote. You’d need a passport. And if your legal name differs from your birth name (e.g. you got married and took your spouse’s surname), you’d need to bring your birth certificate AND the documentation of your name being legally changed. Roughly half the voting population wouldn’t currently be allowed to vote. In order to get the needed documentation to be able to vote would take hundreds to thousands of dollars in fees and weeks of processing time.
That’s not „Voter ID“, that’s „Voter Suppression“.
