      Unfortunately, this seems to be somewhat common. I’m not sure just how common but googling „school medical examinations japan“ and going to the news tab demonstrates this is not an isolated case.

      I remember reading one specific article a year or two ago that said it was because older doctors refused to change the procedure. A classic case of old stubborn men who refuse to listen.

      Would it be safe to assume that international schools have more modern thinking and don’t do this?

      I had to do this at high school in Osaka while I was on exchange. Girls high school, we were all filing through, some getting changed, some being examined, and others redressing. I think the stripping being more of a time-saving thing because they had 80+ students to see, but I wasn’t warned and it was all a bit overwhelming.

      I get my testicles inspected occasionally (used to be about once a year, now I’m old enough that it’s rarely) by my doctor and in a few years they’re going to stick their finger up my butt. And let’s not forget what a gynecologist sees every 3 years or so. 

      It’s lame that this is happening for the *convenience* of doctors rather than strictly speaking an actual need, but I also seriously question if telling children it’s a violation to show their naked chest to doctors when they’re going to have show doctors their *actual naked genitals* (…regularly!) eventually or risk undiagnosed cancer is educationally sound **at all.**

      Turns out those penis inspection day jokes were more of a reality then many realize 😰

      Had it happen to me when I was attending school in Japan. I went to attend university in another country in Asia and such things still exist.

      I guess a part of it has something to do with Japanese doctors not wanting to change their olden ways. Not sure about other countries in Asia still having that practice.
