So we can leave again without a referendum when Reform take over? Cool. Seems a bit of a waste of time, but cool. 👍🏼

    2. I’m starting to believe UK might be actually impossible to govern when people responsible for Brexit are not only still in politics but even gaining support.

    3. No he’s not, I’m from the UK and it’s well known over here than Brexit would still pass again because we’d get such a shit new deal.

No one in the UK wants this right now, we have bigger shit to deal with!

For the next general election, Labour should have reopening the talks in the manifesto, but with clear red lines regarding currency in order to prevent Farage from picking on it.

Everyone is instantly projecting their deepest desires onto him. And they’re all going to be disappointed.

He has as much room for manoeuvre as Starmer and if he starts making unfunded promises then the bond market is going to take even that room away from him.

He isn’t going to rejoin the EU because that would burden him with even more restrictions, plus we’re potentially 4 years away from a brexiteer government which would instantly withdraw again and is hardly likely to encourage the EU to accept us back.

    6. For any small nation it’s really a question of which mega trading bloc do you align with. The USA, the EU, or China.

The Brexit chucklefucks wanted to swap out the EU for the USA but that didn’t happen.

    7. Given how reform is currently polling, Brits are NOT ready. Way too soon. The situation has to get much worse until they find out that maybe the EU has it’s flaws but it nevertheless has more advantages than disadvantages.

    8. It might be unpopular, but I don’t think a return of UK or serious talk at the EU parliament is a good thing for EU at the moment. But I also think that a decision that important shouldn’t be a simple majority question.

It’s not that easy. UK will have to accept that things won’t *go back to the way things were*. Not how things work after a divorce. Otherwise it’s just arrogance speaking and it would be better for both to remain apart.

The guy hasn’t even become PM yet and people are already banging the Brexit drum. There are so many other structural issues with the UK that need fixing, such that rejoining will no more solve all our problems than leaving was meant to do 10 years ago. Rejoining the EU would of course be a benefit for Britain, but people seem incapable of just letting a Prime Minister get on with governing without everything being overshadowed by Brexit.

    11. The UK should not be let in until it gets it shit in order. Sorry but currently the country is babanasz!!

    12. Would need another referendum to undo.

This will likely be more popular as time goes, but I don’t think a change like this is feasible in this parliamentary term.

    13. No bugger in Britain that runs a business wants Britain to rejoin the EU. The entire economy has already switched away from it. The EU is smaller every year than the rest of the world in terms of trade.

      This isn’t going to happen.

The largest quick wins on either side are perhaps some regulatory alignment, but that’s about it.

Zero benefits for Britain to pay to rejoin the EU.

    14. This is very irresponsible to claim. There’s no way Britain would adopt the Euro.

There’s no way they get special treatment again, so they just can’t re-join.

    15. Reversing Brexit was not in the 2024 Labour manifesto, so there would have to be a general election first.

    16. If he does he will lose, it doesn’t make any sense considering Reform’s popularity and their leader literally being Nigel Farage

    17. Just to be clear I am personally against Britain rejoining just because without solid support for it (which they don’t have right now) they will leave again a couple of years later, nobody wants to deal with this. Come back when you have some actual public support for this which will likely never happen, let’s face it.

What is it now, barely abouve 50% https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potential_re-accession_of_the_United_Kingdom_to_the_European_Union#Graphical_summary.

He’s just become an MP for a seat that voted heavily to Leave so don’t expect anything.

The EU should think long and hard before letting the UK back in while Farage and his types are still that popular. Assuming of course the UK even really wants to rejoin that is. No matter what the EU wants to think, Brexit was a huge headache and a trauma for the whole project. Now the drama is still playing out 10 years later. Do we really want another 20-30 years of this?

I think we’re in a kinda death loop now, you can’t please left or right, no one wants to lead with authority

He used to be an LGBTQ+ ally but recently started to back away and support more oppression of trans people bit by bit so I do not trust him and even if he gets in he will need the support of a load of very questionable characters who just want power and money so i do not see much changing

    22. He’s previously made public statements taking a negative view on this.

Perhaps it was subterfuge ? We will see once he’s in a position to actually do something about it.
