Don’t really give a shit about them. As long as you keep your wits about you, you can normally avoid them.
Do care about the heating in winter though. Sapporo does it right. They understand that people are going to be wearing heavy winter coats and set the heat accordingly. Tokyo is a shit-show in that regard. You can either struggle in and out of your coat in a packed train, or deal with and it and completely sweat one out.
Bitch what? Strongly Air-Conditioned cars?! Try going on the Tanimachi Line in Osaka in August, the aircon is set in a way, where no matter where on the train you sit or stand it is blowing freezing cold 10°C air into your head the entire time. No way to escape it, no way to survive other than crafting a makeshift hijab of some sort with whatever crap you have on you. How about they make „normaly air-conditioned“ cars for once.
I’m still in the firm camp of tailoring to the hottest person instead of tailoring everything to the coldest person. Putting on a jacket is much better than having to see cheeks
Be careful what you wish for. I remember, years ago, I remember spending an evening shivering for over an hour, in just a shirt, on a local train from Ayabe to Kyoto.

Saturday morning I was travelling through Tokyo out to Chiba on various train lines and *none* of them had the AC on at all despite it being hot and muggy.
You know you are peak first world when this makes it into the news.
Honestly, please! There is no relief anywhere in this country except in your own house. Offices baking at 27, shops barely pumping out any AC, clinics catering to 90 yr. olds… Just carry a damn cardigan with you if you get cold. I can’t take my skin off.
God dem, not just in Japan but need to turn up the air con for trains that operate in tropical countries too, it’s fuking too hot in the trains. Imagine getting on the train sweat free and then leaving the train drowned in sweat. Dafuq man.

Sometimes I accidentally board a mildly air-conditioned car without thinking. Every time, I think, „Ah, I messed up,“ but I’m too lazy to move to the next car, so I just end up staying there. And even though I tell myself to be careful next time, I immediately forget and feel like I keep repeating this on a regular basis.
Wearing shorts and t-shirts in professional settings should become the norm during summer

Last year I posted asking why these cars exist in one of the residents subs and got torn to shreds for not thinking of the poor easily cold folks. So many people said “ummm ackshully even the low ac car is too cold for me sometimes and I’ll get sick if my temperature changes too fast use your brain for once”
I asked a conductor to turn on the air, and he kindly did. Then it was turned off after a while. I guess someone else didn’t like fresh air being circulated.
