Rep. Talarico is exactly right to push for absolute transparency here. When open records requests regarding something as grave as a child abuse case are systematically stonewalled by the state’s top legal office, it raises massive red flags about executive overreach and accountability

Am a little surprised that child abuse is still illegal in Texas, given how long Paxton has been attorney general.

    3. > The Democratic candidate noted that after the plea deal was announced, the victim’s mother alleged that her son’s case had received special treatment because Hoffman’s attorney also represented Nate Paul, a real estate developer and Paxton campaign donor who, according to the outlets, played a central role in the attorney general’s failed impeachment case.

      Here’s some additional background:

      “**Statement from the Victim’s Mother**

This case was treated differently because of who Adam Hoffman was and who represented him. CPS, the police, the Attorney General’s office under Ken Paxton, and the judge all bent the system to protect him instead of protecting my son.

They made sure my son was in the room when they raised the plea deal – knowing he didn’t want to testify again — and they used that against him. They pushed the deal through with or without our approval. That is not justice. That is manipulation.

CPS even told Hoffman’s neighbor, ‘don’t worry, your daughters aren’t his type.’ Imagine hearing that when your own child was molested for three years. That is disgusting. That is betrayal.

The police delayed his arrest, the Attorney General’s office ignored evidence, and the judge bent bond rules to spare Hoffman ‘hardship.’ Then I learned Hoffman’s attorney was Gerry Morris, the same lawyer who represented Nate Paul, a central figure in Paxton’s corruption scandal and one of his financial contributors. Paxton’s office gave Hoffman a sweetheart deal. That is corruption.

Why are the people in charge of protecting us getting away with this? My son deserved protection. Instead, every authority protected his abuser. Ken Paxton must be held accountable. Texas needs new laws that protect victims, not predators.

My name is Melissa Dieterich, and I am the spokesperson for the family on whom this grave miscarriage of justice was inflicted.

The victim’s mother has been my friend for decades. The fact that Attorney General Ken Paxton allowed this man to get away with molesting and sexually abusing her son for three years is completely disqualifying. He didn’t just harm an innocent child – he stole his life, and the so-called ‘consequences’ Paxton’s office offered weren’t merely insufficient — they were a slap in the face to every survivor who has ever trusted the justice system to protect them.

You don’t recover from that kind of trauma. Any victim of sexual abuse spends a lifetime trying to rebuild what was taken – their sense of safety, their confidence, their ability to trust. Those scars never disappear.

Adam Hoffman could have faced life in prison. Instead, Ken Paxton and his office offered him a deal that kept him off the sex-offender registry and included no new jail time. Who is the next child that Adam Hoffman is going to abuse? How will anyone know that they are living next to, or working with, an admitted child sex-abuser?

Even after the judge intervened, this man is still serving only 60 days in prison – and he still isn’t on the sex-offender registry.

The family deserves justice, and Ken Paxton does not deserve a promotion to the US Senate.”

All those conservatives who bought into the Pizzagate conspiracy theory are for sure going to oppose a Republican politician who actually did help pedophiles rape children.

    5. BarCompetitive7220 on

Whine by Paxton aide – talking about this is distressful to the abused….will they use same defense about Dilley and children separated from parents via ICE? Ask GOP wannabees

    6. Somebody watch out for another dumpster fire filled with files from Paxton’s office. Pretty sure that was his move last time he smelled accountability.

    7. Hippolobbomus on

Sorry, but this is a fairly bone-headed move by Talarico. Why wouldn’t he wait until October to release this as an October surprise? By releasing this now, it just looks like he is trying to change the news cycle because he was accused of veganism.

    8. amnesiac808 on

Just more political posturing that doesnt give a shit about the victims, they barely released the E files and we are nowhere with punishing anyone but the victims so miss me with this theatre.

    9. I can’t believe an entire senate campaign is “I am may be corrupt but my opponent is gay!”

And it’ll set records in spending… just millions of dollars calling Talarico trans in ten different ways.

    10. He’s going to get started on that any moment now, right after prosecuting himself for bribery, corruption, abuse of office, securities fraud, and mortgage fraud for declaring 3 primary residences.

    11. What? Something that would benefit families and victims? Yeah that won’t get released.

    12. Good job by the Talarico campaign. Keep the pressure on and don’t be afraid to get a little dirty.

    13. PropofolMargarita on

Talarico needs to hammer the shit out of this issue. Bring that guy’s name up constantly. That asshole should have his life ruined and voters should be reminded that Paxton is the sole reason he is free and unregistered.

    14. the records demand angle is smart politics. paxton refusing is a story, complying is a story, and either way talarico gets to keep the pressure going. accountability through documentation requests is underrated as a tactic.

    15. sharpshooter_243 on

I’m glad Talarico is going on offense, any other Democrat would still be trying to go the high road while their opponents convince voters they’re literal demons

Wth is wrong with our country. Pedos are being protected at every level, the last ten years as been a nightmare for victims. It doesnt help potus is a pedo and he has en

    17. Talarico is doing everything Dems need to do… this, Supreme Court overhaul, etc.

    18. RainbowConnickJr on

I have no idea if Talarico is going to win the general election, but man it sure does feel like he’s made every right move so far.

    19. One side accuses the other of being “trans”. The other accuses the first of being an aggressive defender of paedophiles, a prevalent fraudster and corrupt abuser of an unjust legal system, silencer of whistleblowers by criminal means and generally “should rot in prison” kind of guy. Also matrimonial cheater. Only one of these guys has receipts, and it’s not the one shouting “trans”.

The proxy rape and murder of 13 million women in Texas with mandatory medical neglect is the topic we need to raise.

Ken Paxton is a proxy rapist… He supports the goal of rapists to force breed using Texan daughters. Paxton uses lawfare to subjugate rape victims so they must force breed.

This led to dozens of near death victims of the pro-rape laws Paxton implemented to murder women.

    21. Thank FUCK they are going after this. Paxton’s biggest weakness, bar him being a murderer, is this pedo shit he is so amicable with. Nail him!

KEN PAXTON DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE PARENTS or. CHILDREN of TEXAS.

If James Talarico wants to win Texas & expose Paxton for the worthless POS that he is… then he needs to start talking about the Office of the Attorney General, CHILD SUPPORT DIVISION under Ken Paxton.

Paxton’s OAG has treated custodial parents & their children like disposable trash since forever…which is the future of Texas, right?

The way Paxton runs cover protecting deadbeat dad/non-custodial parents from paying child support should be a crime. Full stop.

Talarico, if you or TEAMTALARICO are reading this…figure out a way to expose this. Every family law attorney, court clerk, custodian parent, even the employees of the OAG, Child Support Division hate that man for the crimes against children he had let happen under his watch.

Talarico needs to frame the messaging in such a correct, loud way that it can reach anyone that has been a victim to the abuse (yes abuse) of Texas CHILD SUPPORT DIVISION. Most custodial parents currently don’t realize that the CS OAG is being ran under Ken Paxton.

Imagine how many people would line up to tell their horror stories Paxtons OAG put them through. Not mention the non-custodial parents that think they got a bad deal. We are celebrating his departure.
