Imagine you have severe depression.
You see a leaflet in your clinic advertising a clinical trial of Nordic walking for depression.
You get excited. You sign up. You get randomised to the control arm and given a “mental health newsletter”. You feel worse than you did before.
The intervention group get hour-long group activity sessions led by an attentive instructor, twice a week for ten weeks. You get asked how you are far more often.
The results say nothing.
