If only we could market cleaning at home as equally performative nationalism then we would solve this in no time.
And before the ”it’s changing” crowd comes here: every single one of my kids’ classmates’ parents work, both of them, and yet it is always the woman who does the household chores. I have 2 fathers in one of the dad groups who humblebrags about now knowing where the detergent is stores at their home.

It is not only Japanese men who clean up trash at World Cup venues, but also Japanese women. Are they aware of that, or are they deliberately ignoring it?

I live in Yokohama and go everytime I can to the Yokohama Marinos stadium, not a single time, never, ever, I saw people cleaning others trash, yeah usually people clean their own trash, but its inevitable that trash is everywhere, and never, ever I saw Marinos fans or other team fans cleaning others trash.
According to a survey by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the gender gap in time spent on housework and childcare has been shrinking rapidly in recent years, with the gap narrowing by 20% in the last two years alone.
In the first place, cleaning at the World Cup is done by both men and women together. This is a ridiculous criticism.

Is this some psy-op?
I can’t believe an objectively good deed is still being criticized. How about instead, we all clean up trash in public places instead of looking for guilty motives?
This gives same energy as a toxic friend who when you tell them good news, always responds with „it wasn’t that impressive“.

The people who criticize this are the same ppl who leave shit everywhere and say they aren’t paid to clean up
Even if it is performative the end result is positive. Or would news articles of “massive crap left everywhere by American fans” make you proud ?

That’s bs, If your husband doesn’t help you at home that’s your personal problem, how is this a good reason to criticize football fans men and women cleaning up the stadium voluntarily.
Performative ? No idea but even if that’s the case, why is that a problem ?
