"Der Bund hatte im Jahr 2025 ordentliche Ausgaben von 86 Milliarden Franken. Das sind 3,5 Prozent mehr als im Vorjahr. Der grösste Aufgabenbereich war die Sozialfürsorge, gefolgt von Finanzen und Steuern (inkl. der Kantonsanteile an der direkten Bundessteuer) sowie Verkehr. Im Jahr 2025 fielen ausserordentliche Ausgaben von 1,5 Milliarden Franken an, insbesondere für Schutzsuchende aus der Ukraine (0,7 Milliarden) und eine einmalige Kapitaleinlage an die SBB (0,85 Milliarden). Die Gesamtausgaben des Bundes, also die ordentlichen und ausserordentlichen Ausgaben zusammen, beliefen sich im Jahr 2025 auf 87,6 Milliarden Franken."
"Der größte Aufgabenbereich des Bundes ist die Sozialfürsorge, auf die etwas mehr als ein Drittel (34,3 %) der Ausgaben entfällt. Diese Ausgaben sind gesetzlich gebunden und daher mittelfristig kaum kontrollierbar. Die Hälfte der Ausgaben fließt in die Alters- und Hinterlassenenversicherung (AHV). Weitere Bereiche sind Bundesbeiträge zur Invalidenversicherung (IV), individuelle Prämienverbilligungen und AHV- und IV-Ergänzungsleistungen sowie Migrationsausgaben. Das Ausgabenwachstum hängt maßgeblich von der demografischen Entwicklung sowie der Inflations- und Gehaltsentwicklung ab."
Ein großer Teil der Kategorie Finanzen und Steuern hat mit dem Finanzausgleich zwischen den Kantonen zu tun.

How much of social welfare is migration expenditure?
AHV is taking up 15% of the federal budget. If we would have never accepted the 13th AHV, we wouldn’t have the fiscal problems that we are facing today. Now everyone, including the poor, will have to pay more VAT, and the old people, the richest part of the population, will benefit.
Yeah, and since I’m being asked to reimburse the supplementary benefits of my two parents who died two months apart, it makes me think that reimbursed amounts aren’t taken into account in social spending. I had to sell my parents‘ house to be able to pay this amount back. This country is becoming a joke, and not a funny one.
I still don’t get why the federal government financially contributes to the cantonal fiscal equalisation.
Especially at a time where the federal budget is stretched whilst many cantonal governments are running surplus (and at the same time discharging their responsibility like childcare, healthcare and local transportation, which are all their prerogatives, on the federal government).
Can we subsidise a bit childcare costs?
