    1. > How can opposition parties become viable alternatives under dominant-party rule?

      That’s a billion dollar question, isn’t it.

The bipolairty of our political spectrum is now entirely centered around democracy vs. oligarchy, and it is too easy for the ruling party to lose touch with reality by thinking that it’s all that there is. I.e. it’s the good vs. evil and they are obviously the good guys and therefore have a pass on even some anti-democratic actions. That’s the risk for the next 5 years.

The root of the problem with forming a real opposition however is the question of funding. Who is going to fund a new party? Can the diaspora step in after all, or should it be our own local tech bros, or both? You don’t need to match the pro-Kremlin forces in terms of the amounts since they compensate their low popularity with excess funding. Anyway, we either get the answers in the next 5 years or we risk losing the democracy altogether.
