This is marketing.
The post is offering senior positions in finance, tech and research. The lack of jobs is mainly in lower level positions.
Even with the current unemployment rate, there is a lack of qualified seniors. There are too many juniors. The two things aren’t mutually exclusive.
Also: as others point out, it’s just marketing.
The „I’m not close to nature. I am nature“ is a pretty good line though ngl. But you can’t eat nature if you can’t find a job.
The key to understanding this is who the word ”they” refers to.
Might be mind blowing to you but in order to drastically improve employment, Finland needs more people who can create jobs. It’s not only entrepreneurs and business owners, but also employees who can create new value through projects.
I’m not sure how well they are executing this, i.e. if they get the senior people that Finland lacks, or just more mediocre people and more burden to the society.
The intention is good though.
The job ads are not all real.
Companies post job ads to make the impression that they are doing well and need new workers, while they actually don’t hire anyone. Also different „work renting“ places post job ads with no customer for the work, so they are just collecting contact information for workers (if they get a customer in future, they contact). Also there are job ads where the person to be hired is already decided (like lots of public jobs), and the job ad is just a formality so it looks like it was possible for everyone to apply for the job.
Why do they say red bull gives you wings even though it doesn’t?
There are jobs though, just not for everyone. I work in tech for example, and we’ve been having trouble finding senior level developers for years. And same applies to other companies as well.
But for low level jobs sure, the situation is shit
Marketing aside, the jobs available and the competence available are mismatched.
If there are 100 jobs as nuclear technicians available, then the 100 unemployed hairdressers will not be hired regardless. Now add on that 25 of those hairdressers might be located in bumfuck Kitee and refuse to move.

It says it right there, ”looking for senior positions…”. You can go to duunitori or a similar site and find enough spots for seniors in IT/ICT, but non for junior devs and if you do, then those expect senior level work experience. It doesn’t get your hopes up when you’re studying to become a software engineer like me and this is the job market. 🫠
Because all the people i know that are without jobs are over qualified and dont want to change industries/ step down a level and they got used to getting hand outs.. all friends and relatives in Finland that want to work, found jobs within a couple weeks..
Unemployment is high but mostly for people with lower level skills. Also, the population of Helsinki is still on the rise, despite higher cost of living and high unemployment rate of 13,2% (April 2026). High skills are on demand and there are not enough high skill people available for specific roles. This also may or may not be a reflection of European need of getting more independence from USA’s and China’s industries, but this is purely my opinion based on recent global events.
