> In a response posted after the Commission’s decision, the official Stop Killing Games account said the outcome was “not unexpected” and claimed the campaign had already prepared for the result. The group said it is now pushing for members of the European Parliament to amend Stop Killing Games into the Digital Fairness Act instead.
I am not a gamer, but I still supported the movement because I think this is exactly the kind of consumer protections that people should be having. I am very disappointed with commission.

All they had to do here was applying basic contract law knowledge but they still failed to do so lol. We acquire this game to play it as long as we want naturally in the contract we make with the publisher yet it’s still up to publisher whether we can play the game we bought or not

Shame on the commission. Hopefully the parliament is successful at amending the DFA once it is presented.

The Commission of EU should be ashamed.
They also are telling lies „they cannot require video games to remain playable after they are withdrawn from sale“ they can by making it mandatory by law, „The Commission said copyright and other intellectual property rules prevent it from imposing an obligation to keep games playable“ that’s false there are a lot of games that can be played after official support end because copyright and other intellectual property on the consumer side does not prevent them to use their own games and licenses like music and other things does not affect the consumer that got the game.
it’s not over, parliament majority should be on our side so we can use existing law to still enforce it even if the Commission was lobbied to saw stupid stuff.

I know this will be unpopular, but this was the expected outcome, what they were asking for was much more complicated than what people make it out to be. If they had taken some of the criticism and shaped it to specifically focus on digital ownership instead of being really vague with everyone projecting their own idea of what it meant, this could have had stronger legs.

This is not the end.
SKG is still moving forward with amending the Digital Fairness Act to cover this issue instead. The response from the commission was only one avenue being pursued in the EU, since only they have the ability to propose new legislation. However, that might not be strictly necessary, since the parliament can amend existing legislation, and the support in parliament is a lot bigger than in the commission.
Now we know that Dextero is corporate owned since they are clearly pushing the corporate narrative hoping to demoralize people. SKG is not over. This was just the EU comission.

I’m honestly not sure what people expected. This had been DOA from the beginning, but you’d be downvoted for merely suggesting the idea.

I find it weird that people actually expect live service games to go on forever. Like helldivers, I put almost 2k hours into it, if it shut down tomorrow im not gonna fucking complain at all, I got more milage out of it than anyone could ask for. Like exited milage that kept that minty fresh feeling going regularly for years.

The current commission is truly anti-citizen. They don’t care about pro-consumer initiatives, but instead work hard on mass invigilation through chat control and age verification. Things nobody wants who is sane enough to not believe that this bullshit is about protecting childreen.

The EU had the chance to show the world how powerful democracy is, from and for the people. In reality the system is just as rigged as any other nation’s. It’s for the rich and megacorpos. If a 1.3M citizen initiative cannot get even basic consumer protection, the EU is just so out of reach and touch with the common people as I expected before this began. I regret bringing my hopes up. Shame on the EU

Since the commision has tried to push chat control several times now, can we do the same thing and push the petition again and again until it passes?
