      What I suspect Russia will claim is the following:

      1. The yacht got too close and the Russian warship was unsure of its intentions

      2. They radioed them on VHF Ch16, sounded 5 short blasts and told them to alter course

      3. When they didn’t, they issued warning shots

      Yeah, UK and France could very easily block Russians from using the entirety of the channel, especially if Russia is going to act like this.

      This is why we held off boarding shadow fleet vessels, inevitable Russia would raise the stakes. No choice but to close the Channel to all Russian vessels.

      The specifics aren’t clear in the article. Was the tanker in international, english, or French water?

      Was the Russian frigate in international, english, or French water?

      This makes all the difference as Russia has no business escorting any tankers through British or French waters with their warships. On the other hand England has no business seizing ships on international waters. Both of these could be considered acts of war even without any warning shots fired.

      Pretty sad when you can’t win a war, so you have to send your navy out to terrorize rich people in yachts. Now that I have actually said it out loud, it does not sound so bad. If only we could get Zuckerberg and Bezos to take a ride through the channel ………..
      I am definitely not suggesting anything like eat the rich, but if they should voluntarily put themselves on the menu…… who knows.
