so they are punishing the store employees for the fault of the higher ups…

Here’s a good idea! Maybe they should have a promotional Banzai cup celebrating Japanese annexation next! It’ll totally get everyone in the office talking about you 🤭

I remember when starbucks closed all stores for a team meeting and talk years back in america. There were MULTIPLE signs saying we were closed.
People still hit the door angrily and would stomp and yell through the door as we all stared.
I also remember one of my coworkers saying the stupidest things that results in me yelling at him in front of everyone 💀

So the CEO fucks up and the employees that have nothing to do with it will have a meeting / training session? Make it make sense…..

Why does Korea have such a proclivity for useless “educational” videos that nobody seriously watches? I’ve spent hours sitting in rooms with others pretending to watch hours of videos. Mandatory videos before the driver’s license test, mandatory videos to receive unemployment benefits, mandatory videos about student abuse while teaching in academies and all of them just common sense.
Not to mention the employees made to watch this history videos didn’t make the decisions that cost the company so much

Lmfao. The store employees were behind the terrible promotion ideas? What a joke.

So Baristas are getting tortured with sensitivity training they probably don’t need? I surely hope it is paid training for them. It’s ridiculous that the actions of the management team should result in time-wasting for shift employees.

Just let it go and move on. Any actions no matter what they are only serve to draw attention back to the original issue.

What happened to the managers who approved the campaign without even opening the attachments to see what the campaign was?
Have they been fired yet?
I imagine not and yet the onus of the „punishment“ for decisions taken at the corporate HQ and by managers who were, at best, grossly negligent and whose complete lack of even the most basic work ethic has cost the company tens of billions of won, is to offer to „educate“ the people who had precisely ZERO part in it?
Fuck that, fuck Starbucks, and fuck Shinsegae. Absolutely pathetic.
Actually it’s worse than pathetic, it’s a slap in the face to the Starbucks baristas who were betrayed by their corporate managers and then sent out to face the public while they cowered in their office trying to avoid blame and responsibility.
Chung, if he had any sense of decency, should have resigned when the scandal broke. Not decide on some shitty and desperate attempt to turn public opinion around weeks later.

Does nobody truly understand that management doesn’t give two fucks whether regular employees understand or even watch the mandatory training?
The reason for forcibly dragging all store employees into this is so they have a pretext for closing all stores, absolutely ensuring the public notices (and media reports on it). Because the whole thing is just one huge publicity stunt and show to win back the public. Make no mistakre, none of it is genuine or in good faith.

I’m pretty sure it’s the executives and perhaps the marketing or sales team that needs history lessons. The fucking baristas are just doing a service job.

So what about the marketing team at HQ and the executives who signed off on the campaign?

If I were a cafe owner I’d be salivating over this and offering coupons to encourage patrons to continue coming and abandon Starbucks.

Of course, the hardworking employees are not at fault. It is certain higher ups who screwed up. When someone comes with a marketing plan, it is the responsibility of the top bosses to make sure it is okay. I mean Starbucks before this fiasco was extremely popular here, but some moron or morons decided that was a good marketing idea? I don’t get it.

>Marketers chose the “thwack” slogan after consulting an AI tool for suggestions, Shinsegae Group said. It turned out some managers who approved the campaign never opened the email attachments showing the marketing material.
That actually sounds plausible to how such a blatantly sensitive/offensive thing was put out as a promotion, but also puts a spotlight on how stupid total AI reliance is at the moment and how the C suite was totally checked out on signing off.
