**Cezary Tomczyk: Poland did not transfer the MiGs to Ukraine because Kyiv failed to fulfill its obligations under the agreement**

Ukraine failed to fulfill the agreement regarding the use of drone technology, Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk revealed on Radio Zet. He added that this was the reason why, despite earlier announcements, Poland did not transfer the MiG-29 fighters it still possesses to Ukraine.

“We will transfer the equipment to Ukraine if this matter is finalized,” said the Deputy Minister of National Defense.

**Deputy Minister of Defense: We reached an agreement with Ukraine, but the matter has not been finalized. Explanation regarding the MiGs**

“We have not transferred the MiGs to Ukraine. (…) We have agreed with the Ukrainian side on a technology transfer. If this matter is finalized, the fighter jet issue will be successfully resolved,” Tomczyk said on Radio ZET, adding that the last batch of aircraft was transferred to Ukraine by the previous government.

Over several years of fighting against the Russians, Ukrainian military personnel, engineers, and drone manufacturers have developed a unique set of practices—ranging from new types of interceptor drones to tactics for countering drone attacks.

“A dialogue is ongoing between Poland and Ukraine. The Poles have made it clear: since we are building our own drone capabilities, we would also like to be able to utilize these Ukrainian capabilities. Of course, we will transfer the equipment to Ukraine if this matter is finalized. Nothing has changed in this regard; the matter has not been finalized,” Tomczyk concluded.

A few months ago, there was an exchange of views between the president and the prime minister regarding the transfer of MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine. At the time, the Presidential Palace criticized the ruling coalition for failing to adequately inform Karol Nawrocki about decisions made regarding the transfer of military equipment.

**Polish MiG-29s in exchange for drone and missile technologies**

In December 2025, the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces reported that talks were underway regarding the transfer of Polish MiG-29 fighter jets, which are nearing the end of their service life, to Ukraine. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized at the time that transferring the equipment to Ukraine would be beneficial for the Polish army, as we would receive drone and missile technologies in exchange.

“A relationship of solidarity must be a two-way street. Just as we train Ukrainian soldiers—nearly 30,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been trained in Poland—we are now also benefiting from drone training. The Ukrainians are the best at drones among all the countries with which we have positive relations. No one else has as much experience, so it’s worth taking advantage of this, and MiGs will soon no longer be in service with the Polish Air Force. The FA-50, F-16, and F-35 are coming in, so a technological shift is underway. Talks are ongoing. We are focused on finalizing this as soon as possible,” said Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in December 2025 on Radio Trójka.

    2. Yes yes we are very evil for wanting Ukraine to keep it’s end of the bargain.

Some others might remember when the time comes to support Poland. Solidarity is not a one-way street.

Drones are probably more useful than old MiG-29s now – they are only good for lobbing glide bombs.

They didnt want the migs anyway, it was in the news a month or so ago

    6. The whole relation between UA and PL is weird right now.

There is a lot of media bickering, but underneath things mostly work ok. Agreements such as this take time to negotiate and implement. And nothing is every free, whether its Germany, Poland or US offering assistance.

This seems just a different PR spin on the same thing other European countries are doing. It looks like the Polish government is doing all of this on purpose, trying appease the anti Ukrainian sentiment that has been showing up in Poland lately, while carrying on with business as usual.

Since celebrating genociders of UPA incident all relations with Ukraine will looks like this. Polish people demand hard and transactional stan on ukraine.

Politicians must follow or they will lose power and those with hard stand will take their place.

Help will flow but it will be priced from now

Lately I get the impressions that a lot of polish donations to Ukraine weren’t actually donations, but have caveats attached to them that we do not know about or are revealed later.

Sounds like blackmail in order to force out some technology from someone in a desperate situation.

Every country wants to build up a drone industry but no one else links their support for Ukraine to such conditions.

Just give them the damn planes.

So Poland is now anti-Ukraine, and pro-America? Just when we got rid of Orban…

Poles are hard in negotiating, remember how the idea they would service damaged Ukrainian Leopards fell through because they wanted to be paid an arm and a leg?

I don’t blame them in general, that’s life. But in this particular situation, it does feel a bit like taking advantage of someone who has their back against the wall. And is also fighting to protect you, besides themselves. Not a good look.

    12. DoNotResuscitateThem on

I don’t think we are seeing those Migs or they are seeing our drones. We don’t need them that much anymore so if Poland wants our technology they will have to find something else to trade.
