Don’t worry, they kept Feng Shui
Universities cutting degrees rather than filling them and letting the graduates to the unrelenting job market is a good move. Many colleges around the world bank on outdated studies to top off local student economies

Ban paywall?
I was unaware that there were twelve thousand different degrees in the first place.

Now imagine you have just graduated in a subject now considered worthless.
This doesn’t sound like the way to go.
Degrees in tech fields are not necessarily going to be any more useful than ones in the arts with the entire tech industry devoted to replacing all of its employees with AI in the next few years.
„The humanities must suffer“ Is a school of thought that in the long run encourages problems later on…
Starfleet Academy in the making.
Misleading headline:
> Between 2021 and 2025, China’s higher education institutions revoked or suspended 12,200 undergraduate degree programmes while introducing 10,200 new ones, meaning that more than 30 per cent of the nation’s university programmes underwent adjustments
Most were adjusted, not just removed and this has been over the last 4 years. Makes sense technology has changed and new curriculum should adjust to that.
They are also cutting programs with poor employment placement for graduates. If a degree is producing unemployable workers it is not helping.
Honestly I would have no idea what to do if I were China.
From what my friends who moved to Japan from China tell me, essentially most people got a „good degree“ e.g. STEM, but even before A.I there simply wasn’t enough jobs to employee all these people with various degrees.
So many ended up doing door dash, or factory work, even after they managed to get a civil engineering degree. There were 2 million other people who graduated with the same degree of you in the same year, and there were only 1 million job openings.
If you are the government do you just dissuade the public from entering university? I would have no idea what to do with such a mismatch in expertise and demand.
US institutions do this too.
what happens is that the degree program is still available for those who are still in it, but students cannot change into that major.
It’s good to know that when this lame AI shit collapses, we aren’t gonna be the only country to go down
Guess they also want to speedrun civil unrest.
Ai steals beauty and language. Arts and word now obsolete 👍🏻
The AI bros really really really don’t want anybody studying the humanities.
on one hand i do applaud any university that finally cuts useless degrees instead of using gen eds to artificially up the numbers of students in the classes to keep it alive longer than it should be. on the other, ew for AI.
Fuck AI and fuck tech bros
I just woke up, why did I read China as California…? lol now it makes more sense.
And at American Universities they mention AI and everyone furiously boos.
China is going to overtake the US in a couple of decades. Not sure if that’s good or bad.
China is super positive about AI despite having a worse job market than here. They’re lining up around the block and going crazy for it.
I prefer my espresso from a La Marzocco than the push button touch screen slopmachines used by Starbucks and other chain coffee shops.
China’s government is run by people who don’t know anything about humans beyond greed and selfishness.
But ultimately, Americans and Europeans prefer a personal touch.
That makes no sense. Get rid of society enhancing degrees for tech degrees that will also be obsolete eventually because the universities are pushing out graduates who w I’ll get degrees to work with ai all to train it to eventually replace them. We’re fucked as a society.
