    1. Good old use the kids as an excuse to take away rights and monitor civilians. You know as a Turkish immigrant I can tell you, Erdogan used this same excuse 10-12 years ago. Now there’s prison time for questioning the government. Good luck everybody.

    2. We definitely shouldn’t let Trump get in the way of another stupid Liberal idea.

Why does it seem like Trump, an obvious loon and a supposed „facist“ (who isn’t these days?) is doing more to protect our freedoms than our own government?

Honest question: how far do these online „safety“ and speech restriction bills have to go before the „51st state“ talk stops seeming like a threat and starts seemingly like a liberation? We are obviously a far ways from that today, but I don’t like the direction we are going at all…

    4. “Canadians don’t seem to like our age verification scheme we better trot out the ‘ol Trump boogeyman.”

And the sad thing is that some people will actually fall for it.

    5. Miller is a cancer. Literally zero of the things in his head count as good ideas. Marc Miller architect of immigration debacle and now useless internet regulation.

We should go after what’s being put on the internet more so than who can access it.. restricting social media advertising, algorithms designed to influence people and websites leading to destructive behaviours..

..but that’s just too much work, easier to blame them kids.

    7. This guy ending PMs careers like thats his job. Carney will loose a huge chunk of the 18 to 40 vote, because lets be real. No one will want to log in with their IDs to browse p’orn. Find a better way, this is just lazy f’n politics.

When the only political world leader looking out for Canada’s freedoms is Trump you really have to open your eyes and ask „just how wrong is the Liberal government in Canada?“.

Seriously, like or hate him when we let our freedoms erode under the guise of safety you can only guess what’s up next.

If this passes, then Bill C-22, we will be waiting right where the UK is and is not pretty. When the government has no oversight and can stick it’s fingers into every aspect of your digital life, decide if they don’t like it then make the one sided choice to jail you? That’s a problem.

Let’s not forget that the Liberal government just removed checks and balances by allowing certain politics and judges to rub tips and is now allowed to overrule any legal decisions made so they decide who did something wrong or not. I can’t recall the exact bill but they’ve basically given themselves a „get out of jail free“ card for businesses.

Cynical bastard. Playing the Trump card and the ‚Think of the *children*‘ card at the same time to push for their authoritarian social control. I’m worried the electorate is gullible enough to buy it.

This is 100% not about the children at all. This is about surveillance and control. If our government or any government actually cared about the children they would go after all of the pedophiles in the Epstine files, they would stop all CP from being on the internet, but they don’t. They actually don’t give two shits about our children. They just total control and obedience from us that’s it.

This age verification will end in the largest data breach in Canadian history. I have zero faith that this information will be stored in a secure manner.

Government trying to use anti-Trump sentiment to get support for their unpopular new laws.

    13. I wonder why Canadians seem to love deepthroating more government intervention in their lives.

Some of these doomsday comments are making it pretty clear to me, it’s more than just children that need to stay off the social media.

The concept of online privacy is absolutely hilarious. Every browser, phone, PC, ISP you’re using is owned by a corporation who is collecting and selling your data. Incognito mode isn’t hiding anything guys 😂

“But clearly there’s a difference between how money is distributed within an industry and the desire to protect kids, and I would also say that platforms, not to put words in their mouths, are taking a different approach to this.”

Has this guy ever been online? Does he know how monetization works? These kids are a major component of streaming services. They’re part of the viewers. Their engagmebet is part of the money coming in. You cannot seperate the money made off of kids attention vs protecting kids at the same time. It’s a contradiction in terms. The reason big tech doesn’t want this isn’t because they couldn’t implement it, or that they’re worried about data breach. They just don’t want the next quarter to be lower.

    16. Yes. Let’s save homeless and hungry children from platforms. The extreme center neoliberals use AI platforms to appear as though they care about children.

SO we are banning porn sites for kids too, right?

Or we don’t really care *that* much.

    18. GreatCanadianPotato on

Drop the act Miller. It’s not about the kids and the vast majority of people can see that.

    19. AngelicImouto on

The US is also pushing for a national age verification law.. and the individual US states that have, are all ran by hardline trump cultists…

    20. It’s a domestic issue for which our neighbouring president’s opinion is not required.

If they really cared about people, there are plenty on the streets who need help. Start there.
