I think a majority of Swedes know about Gammelsvenskby. There has been a lot of directed aid from the Swedish Government (€1.2 M) and from various Swedish aid organisations. There is even a Gotland based organisation – Svenskbyborna (https://www.svenskbyborna.se) – where the main purpose is to support Gammelsvenskby.

Crazy how hard russians tried to erase other cultures. And the fact they are still doing it.

That’s an incredible story. I’m not a Swede, nor a Ukrainian, but stories like this make me feel very proud of both.

    4. In the 18th century they deported the Estonian-Swedes from Hiiumaa (est.) / Dagö (swe). to Ukraine and now the same people murdered their ancestors in Ukraine and destroyed the whole towns.

And during the Soviet occupation & reoccupation in 1940/1944 most of the remaining Estonian-Swedes fled over the sea to Gotland, Sweden in tiny boats through the stormy & mined baltic sea, full with patrol boats, destroyers & planes from the Soviets and Nazis that killed many of them on their flight.

If course I know if the city, some people in my village even have some friendships there. I had no idea of the language part however. Fantastic.

the same as Russia, Sweden should justify sending Troops to preserve their History … of course in talking it out with Ukraine first, but after that making sure to beef up the Defence there.

This is how Ukrainians were formed in the first place, Norsemen and Slavs are a killer combo.

Thank you so much for a fascinating narrative! It really highlights how, over the years, the Russians have made every country within arms reach suffer.
