    1. I’m convinced they just don’t fucking care. To them it’s a shield and excuse.

    2. I’m convinced 90% of American Christians haven’t read the Bible.

Those that have, (in my experience) incorrectly cite excerpts to try and prove their point… and most of the time it seems to be Old Testament…

Considering that Jesus taught about treating total strangers of a different ethnicity and religion as if they were your family, to love your enemies rather than retaliating, to give away all your possessions to those in need, and that you will be judged by how you treat society’s outcasts and the marginalized, I would say that Republican „values“ are the exact opposite of true Christianity.

I think they’re a perfect representative of Christians themselves.

You have all of human history pointing to exactly that. Isn’t it time to admit that this is exactly Christian behavior?

We can say „Well they’re doing it wrong, the bible doesn’t say xyz“ and does it matter? If this is what Christians always do, then that’s what christian behavior is.

People that follow Jesus need a different term than Christians.

There’s always this bullshit damage control „Well actually…“ no true scotsman falacy as though this is a few bad apples, they aren’t „real christians“. It’s the pervasive norm.

I’m sure there were a few good nazis too somewhere in there in the 30s and 40s, ones that were against all the horrible things. Shall we keep bringing them up to deflect from what nazis are? Of course we don’t.

    5. Republicans couldn’t care less about values – they care about AUTHORITY – and they find the authority of God SO attractive!

Christianity is just another tool for racism and control. Why do you think they bring it to other countries to try and “save” people? It’s an accepted cult.

    8. They’re behaving like quite a lot of Christians have throughout history. There’s a clear throughline from the Crusades to the present state of the United States. I don’t know why people keep acting like this is new, or that they care about the hypocrisy because they clearly don’t. That’s how *power* works, people. The hypocrisy is the point. Rules for thee, none for me. Flaunting serious violations of acceptable human behavior is part of the package.

    9. How quickly we forget history. *“Christian values“* have a very long and bloody history of corruption, mass murder, and theft.

It’s only with a secular government forcing the religion to keep its hands to itself that we see the *“Jesus is love“* side of the religion.

The ones actually in politics know they’re scamming people.

The people who think they’re Republican and vote Republican don’t know anything about anything, which makes them an easy mark.

The Bible is merely an excuse. Murder, theft, torture it’s all bad. However it takes alot of mental strain off of poeple when god takes away all the responsibility of ones actions for you. Yeah i did a crusade and murdered and raped people… but god says it’s chill, the bishop said it’s chill and society says it’s chill. Therefore it’s not my fault and i shouldn’t feel bad about it.

    12. I’m not. They’re practicing the same Christian values that their puritan and confederacy decedents. A lot of the late Jim Crow South era citizens are still alive, either they or their parents probably protested integration (Jerry Jones for example) on those same passed down values.

So I don’t understand the whitewashing here. So you can argue republicans aren’t “real” Christians all day, but I mean they are.

Christian nationalism is still Christianity. They just differ from other sects no different than Muslims.

And telling those people that they aren’t really Christians is never going to be a dunk on them.

    13. Religion is for stupid people. Conservatism is for stupid people. It’s a match made in heaven.

No shit. They’ve been using Christianity as a prop for political and financial power for decades

They don’t need to that’s the beauty of the weaponized religious pyramid scheme that is Christianity.

    16. -Ok-Perception- on

They know fundamentalist Christians are the most gullible Americans, and that’s all they need to know.

    17. Oh but they do understand Christian Nationalists values, which has very little to do with Christ

    18. dont_defend_nazis on

They claim to follow God, who supposedly gave us free will, and do everything to take that free will away. That in itself says enough.

On top of that they work relentlessly to make life hell for certain people, which I am pretty sure was Satan’s job.

Even that history they picked the wrong side.

    19. Trigger warning – before you read on, it’s just about as bad as it gets.

In 1998, my uncle convinced my family to go to his protestant evangelical church a few times, in California, because he was „afraid we would go to hell“ and wanted us to just „try it out.“

While I was there, I found out a man had been sexually abusing his own son and beating his wife. The wife told people in the church what happened, looking for support. You know, somewhere for her to go when she reported him to the police.

Leadership at the church found out this was happening, intervene, convince her that the people of the church now „support her“ by policing him and his behavior. That’s right! They convinced her to stay with him, and not report him to the police, on the condition that he basically just check in with the church, and that she tell them if he does anything wrong.

This made this family basically stars of the church. Why? Because he is so born again. Look at how **far he fell** and how this church, with the power of **jesus** and **1,000 watt speakers** and the head honcho’s **Porsche 911**, saved him.

And we started to notice, this church was *filled* with criminals. Filled to the brim. Guys who had been abusive, been in prison, fraudsters, ex-cops who had been let go (you know how rare that is? They must have really fucked up. **Two of them.**)

The way to get a spotlight on you was to do something fucking terrible, then being born again. People who were genuinely good from the get go got no notice.

The members of the church who owned businesses always had nice jobs to give to these people who needed help in their process of being born again.

And then the substance of the preaching, can be summed up as „I tell you what the bible says and what it means. That’s why you come here. Just give us 10%, 20% of your income. You can afford it. We have a **payment kiosk** in the front lobby.“ Reminder, this was fucking 1998 and they had a donation ATM in their fucking lobby.

The whole thing was a transparent attempt to get money, and make people fear their neighbors, or anyone else outside the in-group.

When you realize that many mega-churches are just grifters on the top, taking wealth from gullible fucks, incentivized to help give literal criminals and rapists more power in their communities, and then let this go on for a few decades, that’s how we get where we are.

There’s no Christianity in it, it’s just an exclusive club of monsters using it as a front to take advantage of others.

The last time I walked out of that fucking church I saw the dude holding his wife and son by the backs of their necks, stroking his thumb against them. I would have reported it, but I was a kid and honestly didn’t even know that I could. I think about them often and hope they got out of there.

„Christian Values“ simply mean whatever they want it to at the time. There are no real Christians or fake ones, for that matter. Its all just whatever confirms preexisting biases, bigotrys, or preferences.

In speeches, Hitler frequently said he was doing God’s will, while calling true Christians weaklings in private.

Republicans just know how to fall in line with whoever leader emerges. They will do anything the leader wants and accept whatever lies emerge from his office. Generally accepted rules and morality are dismissed. Sounds like Nazi Germany?

How are we just now starting to question this? Where the hell have you been for 400 years bro

Ask these idiots what they like about Jesus. First, they’ll stumble around, then second they’ll say he died for their sins. Of course that’s their only takeaway, it’s the most selfish fucking takeaway from the whole book.
