Why is New Hampshire so much less than Vermont when they’re so close to each other, is the environment that different between the two states that there are fewer maple trees?

    2. Now do Quebec and Ontario. I think Quebec is somewhere in the 60+ million gallon range

There’s maple trees in ark-kansas? I’m just yanking your chain, you’re a good kid.

Really surprised production goes as far south as NC and AR. Further surprised that VT out-produces its nearest competitor by 4x

    5. The fact that Long Island gets to be the same color as upstate New York mildly annoys me. Long Island ain’t producing anything!

In Washington and Oregon (and British Columbia), they actually use sap from bigleaf maple trees, which apparently tastes a bit different (and isn’t as concentrated as sugar maple sap). The industry is in its infancy here, hence the low numbers.

    7. Fun fact — most of Maine’s maple syrup is sold wholesale, packaged in 55 gallon drums, and shipped to Vermont where it’s repackaged because the Vermont branding is more valuable than Maine when it comes to syrup.

Having been born in Tennessee, I’m very interested in the 261 gallons produced there.
