What is with this government and their hardon for AI
To disadvantage them even further? Harsh, Starmer.

What’s even the point of tutoring kids when you’re actively encouraging that their future jobs to be given to AI instead?

What good will an AI tutor do? What makes a teacher good is how they convey the information they have, not simply having access to loads of information. Like I don’t mind reading blocks of text, but I know for loads of people that isn’t an engaging way to learn. The best teachers I had were those that were actually passionate about the subject matter, an AI can’t be passionate about anything. AI is a tool, not a fucking solution.
AI is so weird, it feels dream like. The technology feels half baked for how much it’s pushed on us. For a long list of reasons I wouldn’t trust it with the education of children, it would probably start off ok on basic facts but get confused half way though and say Churchill was an American president and WW2 was fought between the United States and Soviet Union.
Because paying teachers an honorable salary is, I guess, too much…
Wonder how long it will take till an AI tutor tells a kid they’re better off killing themselves than getting their homework right.
Does Starmer have a team that works day and night to devise the worst ideas?

This is the worst type of cyberpunk.
It’s kinda sad that we already have decades of data at this point to show that technology is not making children smarter, but dumber, and now we want to unleash the ultimate cognitive offload tool on them.
I say this as someone who works in IT Infrastructure and loves technology. It is incredibly strange how in the UK we’re both simultaneously banning internet freedoms, and then letting every AI and data company access our private information and now, apparently, removing human teachers in favour of AI.
Very strange where this is all going.
It’s massive corruption rolling out. They claim they wanna protect the children. But they are doing quite the opposite.

Classic. In the private schools for years (at least in my country) kids were never allowed (smart)phones, and were given the best education possible. In the public schools around Europe, only now people are aware of the implications of the smartphone use on learning and attention.
Now its the same, the rich will get the good old classic liberal education with professors and tutors, and the poor will have AI Slop, not only jeopardizing their learning, but also making them dependent of that tools for everything in their life. (I am a teacher and already see this. If tomorrow AI turns to be a pay to use tool, and it will be, this generation have to pay, because they simply dont have think skills. Or even more a distopian scene: want to learn about history, wait a minute, you have to see this ad first).

This is a monumentally bad idea. Invest the money I hiring more teachers and providing more funding directly to schools.
Given the quality of some teachers… it may be a chance for some. But it won’t solve social issues.

It is proven that AI can reduce your cognitive abilities and screens in general are bad for learning. Paper and human teacher is the way to go.
