having to work for money to survive is more like a ’need‘ instead of a ‚want‘

I’d like to do some kind of part time work, one for a little extra money but mostly to remain active. Being sedentary terrifies me and I can often fall into being lazy. Also talking with people would be good as for as socializing is concerned.

„Nearly 40 % of older adults in Japan resigned to kepp working past 65“, here, I fixed the headline.

65 isn’t old anymore, especially in a country where people routinely live to 90+.

    5. The other thing is, a lot of the seniors never developed any proper hobbies or social life. Life = work. No work = no life. They are not part of a community/group anymore, no purpose. That can be really scary.

My older acquaintances in Japan told me that a lot of companies will let them continue to work past retirement age, but at half their former salary with the same hours. It’s a way of pushing them out without necessarily forcing things.

I think the article overlooked the fact that working Japanese people have to spend so much of their life at their jobs that they don’t really have a sense of who they are outside of their workplace. Not working means they don’t know who they are anymore. It’s part of what is fueling low birthrates as well.

The work/life balance is talked about so much in Japan, but nothing is done to address it.

…yes. No wonder we see so many elderly doing work in shops, malls, fast food chains etc, sometimes it’s heartbreaking to see that they clearly are on their limits, but they keep up, it’s honorable but also incredibly sad.

This is the same with the the rest of the world. People want to work as long as someone will hire them. Inflation is bacilli driving tjem7to it. Senior position being held by 70 years old senor and younger folks not getting the experience they need is going to cause some major issue in the future.

With all the overtimes that are forced on employee, many will not have free time enough to develope social network as everyone gainfully employed will be too busy just working and some making ends meet.
